Pulled the trigger on some new bars

With this riding season being such a wash in new england, and spring coming in full force I decided to make an offering to the sled gods before putting the sled away for the summer.

My the brief bit of riding I got this year I found: a 2" flat riser doesn't give you much, you get pushed way back on the sled, most of the cable slack goes back instead of up.

With all that being found out, I pulled the trigger today on a new set up. All new from the steering post up, and I can get the most out of what I have on for cables now.

I have a rsi t-post adapter for the steering post, FLY adjustable risers, 5-8.5" of travel and FLY aero taper bars with 4" of rise in the bars. I think it will be a sweet set up and I can run everything straight up instead of raked back to get me back on the foot pads when I'm standing up. Sticking with the stock cables for now (taking off parking brake) to see how much I can get out of it, but can go higher if I have some rise left in the risers and get a longer cable.

It will take some getting use to the way it looks but it's all about function now.

can't wait for this to be gone and straight risers in its place

rsi adapter, rsi 8" riser, and rsi backcountry bars, Parking brake cable was about 1.5" to short. With that much leverage you should put some bracing on the steering post. I managed to snap my oem and sxr one off.

did you check how high that would be before you bought! Im 6'2" and its crazy high for me (but i love it)

That's why I went with the adjustable risers. I'll be at 10" more or less from the post to the grips with the risers all the way down. All the way up I'll be at 13" give or take so there will be plenty of range. I already checked out my post, it's sleeved on the outside from the plate to half way down, Yamaha took care of the earlier weak post issue. Those bars look sweet, similar bend to mine. My stuff came from RaveX in portland me and they have mostly FLY stuff, RSI is special order.

hope you got some handgaurds because it can get a little chilly with your low rise windshield. New England ya say... Never heard of it

Us flatlanders call them ape hangers and they will not function properly without leather tassel's LOL. just wanted to tell ya backwoods that MM is awesome makes me want one baddddd even if the biggest hill I climb is the curb in front of the bar. Hope your handle bars work out post pics

Haha it will probably be a couple weeks more before I get to this one. I ordered an 03 viper mountain oil and throttle cable the other day. Those aren't suppose to ship until the end of this week. I did some measuring last weekend, my bars are about 9" above the post plate right now plus the set back from the flat riser. The t post will give me 1/2" rise above the plate, then I'll have 12" vertical rise to play with from the bars and riser combo I have.

Just a heads up on the oil cable. it's no longer than the stock 02 MM's. After reading some posts on here I ordered a new oil cable and parking brake cable. I got them Saturday day only to find that the oil cable is the same length and the parking brake is only a couple inches longer. I ended up running my old cable through the slot between the filter and the air box. I had bought an aftermarket oil line but did not like how they adjusted.

i found the same with the 03 mountain viper throttle cable. it didnt have the 90 degree metal bend in it like my SRX so i was able to run it through the air box. with the mountain viper brake cable i have lots of slack all around with my bar setup.

Oh well you live and learn. I have the oil cable run through the air box slot now. I think I'll end up with all 2 going through there. I might have to take off the outer chafe wrap over the oil cable so it sits deeper in the airbox slot to get the throttle cable to sit on top of it. I like running the cables through the steel hoop at the top steering bracket, it leads everything nice. I think I'm going to ditch the parking brake and throw a velcro strap in my tank bag if I'm going to park on a hill.

Just need to get time to put it all together now!

I also cut that sleave off, it fits better. The viper throttle cable does not have that metal bend part in it so you will get more length out of the cable, I'm not sure if it is longer than the mountain max or not. I was able to use the extended throttle cable from the powermadd set I bought that gave lots of room. Just did not like the way their oil cable adjusted.

Just incase anyone was waiting for an update, I finally got my sled put back together and ready to go. I'm just hoping for some serious snow up in new hampshire now. Total rise with the RSI T-Post/Rox FX Adjustable Risers/Fox Aerotaper bars was 13.5". The machine fits me perfect now and I have a great stance on the machine, I don't feel like I'm being pushed off the back, I can't wait to go out and climb now and see how she is. Like the other post, I'm pulling the sway bar now. The machine, never did, but even more now feels like I'm hanging way too far off it and I can just barely lift a ski on flat ground. I should just have to shift my weight and lift a ski, and hang a leg to side hill and such. Cables are powermadd 10" extended cables, and the brake hose is a powermadd 36" Braided teflon. The throttle cable was straight forward, the oil cable took a little tinkering but ended up being fine in the end. Both cables are in the top of the airbox, and the brake hose runs down behind the oil tank fill.

If anyone has trouble installing a powermadd extended length oil cable, send me a pm and I can try and help you through it. The pull out length for when the cable is at the right length is a little different from the stock cable, I can explain it to you.
