yes that has been already posted on here for weeks already..sure is a light 4 stroke but it really is an Arctic Cat with SRX label on it..so not really a Yami..
aww damn... and here I thought I was all fresh and new. The Motor is yami, as are the arctic cats. I guess it depends on what you consider makes a sled.

iam really woried about yamaha making heavier sleds and no two strokes they are falling to last place. They need a light four stroke and a good two stroke or they will be in last place for a long time

13-14 hp at a little over 10,000 rpms, toss this in the "srx" 120 and it will be a yammi at heart.

I need one of them motors in my snowblower..imagine running down the driveway at 10,000 rpm's with a nice pipe on it.Of course I would do some clutching work to make sure the blower was fast.

The way things are going for Yamaha I believe they are at a crossroad...either give up on sleds or step it up. I think[hope] they will choose the latter and step it up. If I was a betting man I would bet that the Apex/4 cylinder is dead[its only an 03 RX1 Tank chassis/engine thats been stretched to its limit and beyond].
I am thinking we are going to see a 150+hp 3 cylinder in a new chassis and maybe even being badged Viper/Venon or maybe even a model that is really worthy of an SRX badge...165+hp....under 550lbs.
I say this because if Yamaha does not do this they will be out of the sled business wether they like it or not!

I hope Yamaha Corporation is ready this...and the prices have to also come down to a more reasonable level if they even hope to start selling sleds in the future

For those of you who read American Snowmobiler Magazine, check out the article Head to Head: 2 vs. 4 stroke starting on page 46 of the spring 2012 edition. VERY good article, couldn't agree more.
As an Apex owner since 2006, the engine is incredible, certainly the sleds best feature. 4-strokes certainly have a number of advantages. But the weight issue is the single biggest disadvantage imo. IF my sled was 50 to 75 lbs lighter it would be an incredible sled. As it is the sled is only ok in my opinion. I occasionally take a spin on my wifes Doo 600-etec. What a light weight fun to ride sled. I am strongly considering selling the Apex and buying a 2013 800-etech X package. I know that 4-stroke sleds will never be as light as there 2-stroke counterparts but, until they can get the weight down they will never be as fun to ride. That was one of the reasons that the manufactures got away from the triples. Now Yamaha is going the other way again. And power steering while being nice is just a band-aid in my opinion. The 600 Doo does not have power steering and does not need it.
Until Yammi returns to 2-strokes or figures out a way to build a much lighter 4-stroke, I believe they will stay last in sales. It really is too bad, with Yamaha's technical might I'm certain they could build an incredible sled if they decided to get serious.

well your not the first one and won't be the last to sell their Apex either for an 800 e-tec or back to a Yami triple SRX or Viper. The heavy part about them 4 strokes really turn me off from ever buying one..man them e-tec's sure do sound tempting for sure..and the suspensions now on them are like you are floating on a cloud I hear..Macheater said:For those of you who read American Snowmobiler Magazine, check out the article Head to Head: 2 vs. 4 stroke starting on page 46 of the spring 2012 edition. im not sure what specs u are comparingg 2 but the last time i seen the new apex with the power sterring it dynos with the new 800etec rtec or skidont and the new 800 ho arctic cat and it has more torque longer threw its rpm range then the rest of them, allso the nytro is the fastest stock 600 on the market and that stock sled competes in the 600 imporoved class and the 440 snow pros buy the other manufactors and may be some of u have forgot yamis reliability in the engine department. u can go buy ur lite sled give it to me and i will fold it in half my point being made than liter is not better. many of skidoos problems come from being to lite like u can,t keep belts in them , bulk heads twist form chassi tourque motor problems . u can only go so far with the 800 twin motor before u sacrfise reliability. yes i would like to see yami build a 800 2 stroke srx mountain sled, but im sure its never going to happen.

Triples were removed as a marketing ploy. The weight difference is not much compared to power loss and engine reliability. Twins were sold by telling people they have more torque and are lighter, lighter, lighter, believe, better, better better, believe. Truth is, they are far cheaper to make, less machining, less material etc. They are a bit lighter but at a cost to the buyer later on. they have more vibration and piston speed than a triple so they do not last as long and cause clutches not to last as long as well.
I would take a 20lb increase to have a triple over a twin any day. Those new Etecs are a bomb, go for a ride and wonder, is this when it will blow.
I am hopeful that yamaha using the SRX name plate, maybe they are bringing it back in some way. It has for a long time been kept alive through different models, each one being a brutal force on the drag strip and lakes. Lets hope. It would be odd to name this sled after something that once was made, 10 years ago. It would make more sense that they named it after a model that will be released in next years lineup for 2014. that is if we all make it past 12/21/2012 when the 9 great leaders come back to earth. If Aliens do come back on 12/21/2012, I wonder if they will like snowmobiling? This could be what makes them decide to save the human race. We should first thing show them the Breath video on Youtube to get them in the mood.
talk about your segways?

LMAO! Too funny!
On the SRX....we have to remember that the SRX badging disappered from 1981[82 sort of] to 1998...15 years and then it came back, arguebly, better then ever...its presently been missing for only 10 years...we are getting there.

when it gets there I'll be in my wheelchair...lol...they were a little to late I think..... they need a four cylinder fuel injected SRX model..one that will dominate for the next 15 years....of course with a suspension that floats like on a cloud would help....
Bob..could you let me know what the height is on the front bumper to the floor on your SRX.I am going to long travel my SRX and have lifted the front end already, just want to get an idea on hieght.Does anyone know what the stock height was for the front as well...

The measurement to the top of the bumber nose is 16".
Further on this....
A riding buddy of mine ,TY member "Trail Animal", long travelled his 98 SRX rear suspension as well, he wanted to keep his front Ohlins so he flipped the sleds stock top brackets to lift the front end approx one inch then he lifted it further by using Viper spindles[they are longer] and spacing them at the bottom of the stock SRX trailing arms. He now can also use the lighter aluminum Viper steering arms as well. This setup works very well for him and he didn't have to widen the front end or buy new shocks or anything except used Viper spindles and steering arms off of the TY classifieds!
Nice inexpensive fix.

Blue i read that you were stretching your SRX in another post and though it was a joke? Are you really going to go 136? I love the thought but always thought you were to much of a purest. Everything i've read and been told its totally worth it. Im torn with my vipers right now on if i should do it. Torn between putting more money into these older sleds or take the plung on new (yamaha of course).

it would be nice to stretch the SRX.But if I had to,I would stretch my 600 first as it is more my abuse sled..lol..jumping.busting drifts..etc..I already flipped my shock brackets on the SRX for an added 1 ".The reason I am long travelling it is the back has taken so many hits from hitting small bumps and I said enough.I happen to have extra long travel rear shocks from an extra skid I bought years back,so why not put them to use.The shocks were rebuilt on them at the time also,so they are good to go and I do have the longer transfer rods also.Just going cheap way for now.In order for me to even think stretching my skid now would be if there was a local skid for sale with track really cheap, otherwise I wouldn't touch it then.Got to watch my funds this year,so not much more money going into either sleds for years to come.Just gonna ride and enjoy more until I can't do it any more.Another problem that has come back to haunt me this year is my wrist goes numb ,my throttle hand of course and I have to stop almost every 15 minutes to shake my hand and get the blood flowing again.Carpal tunnel was always there for years, last few years was fine and now it is acting up plus probably arthritis also..I really find that my thumb on the lever really goes and it is painful, wish the lever was easier to push....

I saw somewhere that you can get a 4 wheler type throttle lever for sleds for that very reason.
