What do other states do???

so your state of Maine has developed a trail system for quads??? Im thinkin that Im gonna get ahold of a state rep and ask why we pay registration but have no place to ride. sure im not the only one to ask but would like to know. When I was into it the indian reservation in salamanca had dice runs which was a hoot. Used to get hundreds of riders. Dont know if thats still going or not.
 
There is more opposition for ATV's since, people are outside more in the summer, windows and doors are open, most stay up later, easy to see the damage done to the terrain and generally the riders of ATV's are younger ?
 
here one has to be 16 years of age with drivers license before leaving one's property with a quad..why don't the Police hunt the under age riders down and seize the quads...pay a big fine to get it back..that will stop them..

if you don't like it..then who is liable when an accident happens or you destroy someone's property/If you are under age..you have no liability coverage do you..Two girls were riding a quad here in a small town awhile back.The young girl under 16 was driving it into the town and hit a trailer.The older girl passenger was killed.This person who lost her life was a foreign exchange student also.You think the parents of that girl are happy about that since the law states no one under 16 can ride a quad,sled..etc out of their property unless with a parent present..There were some goof balls years ago riding a quad thru my Dad's Wheat field.My dad saw that and went after them..he would of killed them if he got a hold of them.
 
age should not matter. it should be based on skill level and your physical and mental ability to drive the vehicle. (have a test or something) Also there are many adults that have less common sense then some teens. And when under the drinking age drinking and driving is less present. I have 13 years experience on bikes ever since my first suzuki trail buddy. I am now legally allowed to drive one but its still one of the only things that gets me out of the house like it was before. And like those kids riding in your dads fields thats just vandalism. nothing to with being under age
 
Ah yes good ole liability. Just cant stand people who cant be responsible for there own actions. Always someone elses fault. Had a guy once who hit a tree stump with his sled well off the marked trail. Hurt sled hurt him and he had the balls to sue the sled club sayin that stump should have been marked. and trail marked better. Give me a break. Anyhow the club won but not after a couple years of court and lawyers fees. See what you mean about summer and more people out but think some sort of trail system would be possible here where i am at.
 
the hardest part is landowner permission. just like the snowmobile trails, most ATV trails are on private land. Unlike the snowmobiles though the ATV's do more damage to the property

well age matters here..you must have a valid drivers license to ride off your property.To many accidents happening with under age inexperienced riders..they like to go fast but can't handle it.If you cross any Main Hwy or roadway marked with Stop signs..you must have a license to cross these roadways..end of story..You get caught..you pay.The same goes for sleds here to...liability coverage is the Law when riding these toys...If you ride a quad and cross a roadway and hit a car while underage..who pays the vehicle damage...the funeral is obvious for the rider(parents pay it)..but if a car has to sway to avoid you and that person dies in the attempt...who is guilty there???Laws are there for a reason..to keep us safe on the roads as much as possible..To many quads out here run the local roads and they could be ticketed if a cop spots them.They are Off Road Vehicles..so they should be in the ditch riding...
 
here no license is required and someone under the age of 16 can ride if accompanied by a person who is:
(a) is 16 years of age or older; and
(b) if, under the age of 19 years, is properly insured, or on whose behalf there is proper insurance for the operation of that vehicle in accordance with the regulations.
