Girlfriends got a sx 600 i am putting a long traveled rear skid under and stretching to a 144 under and i want to raise the front end or it will look like a funny car. Im thinking like a 15 to 15.5 shock just wonder what you guys are using? She is under a strict budget so i cant do floats. I was wondering if anyone has used arctic cat shocks? I know alot do viper shocks but like i said budget. Let me know what ya think. And also do they need to have the spherical bushings?

I havent done it myself but have heard that the pro action venture is a great donor sled for long traveling front end on sx,sxr,srx's.

SXRs and Vipers also both have long travel front ends. You'll need to change the top mounts but the new bushings are only about 7 or 8 bucks apiece.
Anyone have a clue how long is to long?? I guess i have a set of stock nytro shocks chillin in a box that i would just give to her. But they are 17.5" coil overs. I thought. They would be to long but maybe not anyone know?

they might be a bit too long. if you have the skills you could make anything work within reason, but 17.5" is more than an just an easy bolt on.

The stock 99 SX chassis has the front shocks mounted on a bolt on bracket just like the SRX. The beauty of the SXs is they also have a high shock mount eye cast into the front clip [unlike the SRX that does not have these]. This all makes the SX chassis very easy to long travel.
I have installed Viper shocks front + rear on our 2 1999 SXs stretched to 144".
The Viper front shocks are approx 17" long and bolt right on to the top shock mount.

the nitro shocks are not too long but have the wrong ends on them. One end(depending on year)is not in rubber and is not able to flex at all, pivots must be parallel to each other. On a trailing arm suspension, they are not. You need rubber in each end.
the other reason they wont work is this. you need a clevis shock to work with that bulkhead. I make a bracket that will make those rx1/apex/nitro style shocks work on a srx but there is still some issues.
The only way to use the stock brackets that came on the sled is to find some shocks that are 15in center to center with around a 4-5 stroke. If you use nitro rx style shocks on the stock brackets, you will have the sled sit too high and have too much drop out suspension that will cause some very bent tie rods as well as some even worse bump steer.

some nitro shocks have a spherical ball end in one end. These would be the best choice to use with the brackets I make for srxes. for sx sleds, there is no real option to use this style shock with stock sx brackets and or bulkhead and keep anywhere near the correct height and travel.

I long traveled my 99 sx600. Best move I made for running harder in the rough, however, the sled took some getting used too. Much more tippy as the center of gravity has been raised quite a bit. The srx and short travel sx's cornered like mad. Beware, it's a totally different machine until you make adjustments in the shocks and riding style.

Viper Shocks. The rears just bolt in however you do need longer limiter straps. I made my own out of conveyor belt material which lasted 5 seasons and 6500 miles. The front shocks require removal of the top shock mounting adaptor and then you attach the viper shock directly to the frame.
I have a set of viper shocks with 351 miles on them if you're interested.
