I put oversized idler wheels on my RX1 and SRX sleds. They made a HUGE difference with hyfax wear. I can easily get 4000+ mikes on a set. Pioneer offers a kit which lowers the stock idler wheels by 2 mm. You can just buy idler wheels that are 1/8" larger in outside diameter. Well worth the small investment.
I also installed the small wheel kit at the bend on the front of the slide rail. That helped a great deal in reducing the wear right at the bend.
These two mods have given me peace of mind on long saddlebag trips even with some marginal snow conditions.

same like jim said.I put over sized idlers and wheels on,marginal wheels up front, moved the first set of idlers ahead slightly on the rails, and put on ice scratchers and can go 3 seasons on my hyfax.

I didn't do any of that and got 4,000 kms with still some life left. The pair only cost me $38 bucks
