Newbie Track ?question?

In reading all I can, I read about metal clips on the track where the track is rotated. I looked on my "new" sled, and there are zero metal clips. Are these required? or just a good idea? Did they "fall off"? That's probably enough questions for now... thanks for putting up w/ me! :rockon: :rockon:
 
I did search the forum, but couldn't tell for sure if it is OK to run w/o clips. I did learn that I shouldn't run 100 MPH across a lake like that, but will I be OK trailing around? Where would be a good place to find clips and a clip "tool". Would I be better off getting a track? Wow I'm running on...
 
the clips should be were the track meets the skid on the plastic sliders. i have never herd of having no clips at all!! :eek:
 
Without clips it will generate a lot more heat. If you were always in powder at slower speeds, you might be fine. I wouldn't run it very far or fast like that.

The cost to clip a whole track is over half of a new track, depending on which one you get. Plus it is quite a bit of work. If the clips are gone then unless someone removed them the track likely has a lot of miles on it. I have found that once the clips start going, the track will soon follow.

I would buy a new or used track depending upon you situation. You can get a good used track for $300 or less.
 
Actually talked with the guy who had one on CL. He is a member on this forum! We are meeting tomorrow to seal the deal, and I will be all set except for the install! It's a nice kimpex w/ 2.52 pitch, .87in lug, and... FULLY clipped!!!
 
Sooooo... I didn't buy the used track; instead, I am the proud new owner of a '98 SRX! It needs nothing, so I will concentrate on getting the 600 SX ready to sell. I need to stay away from CL! lol!
I pick it up Sunday (I have asked the previous owner to switch the aftermarket can back to stock), and will post pics forthwith! :bling:

that's New York state for yeah! lol. the make sure we cant use aftermarket cans but they can care less about how much over budget the state is!!lol. it is your decision really just raging on the state! :whine: :offtopic: sorry!
 
Well, in thinking of the scenario of when I get pulled over for speeding (which is likely as I have a problem with "flooring it" as Spongebob puts it) I didn't want to add to the charges with a noise violation!
This can won't take anything away from the power / speed this machine already has, and who cares about the difference between 123 and 125 mph?
 
in the 3 years of snowmobiling i have done so far i have seen the cops only like 4 or 5 times. when i was in old forge i got my sled stuck cause i was playing in 3 1/2' snow and two cops stopped and HELPED us out! no tickets or nothing. i do have the "flooring it" problem to. just remember the trails are always like 45mph max and lakes are 55mph max hear in NY so just follow it in populated places and u will be good! how could you even tell if you have on on your tail when i am in back i don't look back! i have no mirrors eather. lol

Many here will tell you that the stock can will make the most power so losing that ratty can is a win/win.

I personally like the idea of a noise law. I'd just like to see them enforce it equally. Your right to be obnoxious ends at my eardrum.
