I am not sure if SRX's are like the SXR's in that they only had three of the four tensioning wheels in the rear suspension. If it is truely gone then you are going to have to losen the axle, losen the tensioning adjusters (goldish colored plates that pull the axle toward the rear of the suspension) and then remove the axle/wheel/adjuster assembly to replace the wheel. I am sure someone on here has a wheel they will send you or sell you cheap. If not, get ahold of CB Performance or Rich Motorsports (both in vendor section) and they can get you one.

a wheel just can't fall off the back axle.Unless it splits in two..but the bearing would still be on the shaft. Also spacers would be different from a 3 to a 4 wheel axle.Make sure first before you buy another.May have had 3 to start with.If it was and you want to go 4 wheels, you will have to get different spacers as well..GOOD Luck.
yea it was deff a 4 wheel cause I have 2 98 srx's and some how i got two srx's that were 8 numbers apart on the vin number! not sure if they came off the line in order but ... it had to have split in two is my guess? MADZX2 is the wheel you have off of the very rear? and can you replace one of the four wheel or would you have to get a whole new axel and wheels? and will any of the four wheels interchange? and if it will work i will buy it from you on friday for sure!
Be carefull, last year my dad lost one. We tried to limp back to the hotel he then lost another. Thee bearings were shot and thus the wheel failed under the load. Ended up eat the Hell out of the rear axle give it a good look over.

I currently own a 98 srx and it only has 3 wheels on it. I have had mine apart this summer and I dont understand how you could loose a wheel in the middle and have it clear the track and suspension without doing further damage.

that is what I am thinking.Even if the wheel split in two..which is unlikely in the middle..the bearing would still be on the shaft.I had an outside aftermarket wheel nearly break in half.I'll tell you as soon as it broke I felt a wobble in the back end also.so limped him.Good way for sure to tell is by looking at the spacers. If there is no space from one spacer to the next in the middle, there never was a 4th wheel in there.penchar said:I currently own a 98 srx and it only has 3 wheels on it. 98's had the 3 wheel rear axle, the 4th wheel was added in 99 and at one time offered as an accessory part for the 98's. the kit consisted of two collars along with the additional wheel.
i have that 4 wheel setup stashed somewhere.

U can still buy the 4th wheel kits also wich is a wheel and the spacers u need.
ok i am super confused? i will take pics of both sleds rears...it looks like to me that i am missing one because one is offset? and on the other sled there is a wheel where it looks like the other should be? but i honestly don't know for sure

My first two brand-new Polaris' only had three (with the middle being offset). The dealer offered a forth wheel kit and it was recommended when using studs.
My '01 SRX had a forth wheel out of the box. If you look at older lower performance sleds most will only have three wheels and all of them will have the middle one offset. I'd guess the sled with only three came that way.

X2... Mine ('98 SRX) has 3. As previously stated you would only have a 4 wheel if it were an aftermarket kit/add-on. Also as previously stated it can't just "fall off/out" w/o leaving something on the shaft. Possible your second SRX has an add-on to make it 4. I'll take a pic in the AM if you want...Bad98SRX said:ok i am super confused? i will take pics of both sleds rears...it looks like to me that i am missing one because one is offset? and on the other sled there is a wheel where it looks like the other should be? but i honestly don't know for sure
