My 87 Exciter seems to be flooding with oil- smokes real bad and does not rev up-acts like it loads up and it smokes so bad when trying to rev it up, oil on the ground at exhaust outlet,I tried turning on the choke to flush out any oil in the crank case but still flooding with oil, can the oil pump stick wide open? I disconnected the oil pump cable at the throttle lever and still no change, it idles fine, thanks for any help

the cable wraps around a cam that is wound on a return spring inside the pump.when mine popped it could stay wide open, try pulling on the cable and see if it pulls back

I did that and it pulls back on its own so must be hooked up yet, I'm thinking the prior owner may have put oil in the engine?

Smoke can be overfuel too. Don't assume it's just an oil issue. Choking a smoking engine will just add to the problem.
Carb/choke isues woul be more likely.

It is a lot of smoke! The oil lines go into the carb mounts-is stock into the fuel line on 87? It may be over fueled - it has 44mm mikunies with 42.5 pilots, 400 mains, external power jets, air box is still used- has a 3" hole in it on the front mag side, it looks like it has had porting work performed, twin exhaust- very loud! Top end is fresh- I con see .010 on the piston tops through the plug holes

The pumps when worn over oil. Therefore lots of smoke at idle and low rpm. The only fix is a new oil pump. My SXR does the same thing.
