OK I gave a set of SLP triple pipes on the way. Looks like they're painted black with ceramic can.
Motor is stock.
Im going to order the opticool head gasket.
Thinking maybe wrapping the pipes along with recommended heat tape on Hood etc.
My questions are:
1. Is it mandatory that I run the SRX base gasket.
2. What would be a good clutch kit upgrade for this setup. Mainly trails with some friendly field/lake racing.
3. What jetting changes would be recommended for all these add one?
4. What helix and secondary spring do you guys like with these pipes?
I think I'm going to stud the track also. Leaning towards Megabites.
Help me out guys.

Can't speak on jetting or clutching for SLPs. But when I had a set of Speedwerx triples on an 05 Viper Mtn I didn't change anything on the motor, just rejetted the carbs and clutching. No base gasket or head gasket change.

Killer, what rpm do those pipes run?? I have a pretty well setup viper with aaen pipes. Runs 9150 rpm. I can give you my specs if interested, pm me.
Also using srx base and opticool head. Head is cut so all cyl. Are same.
I also have a good srx cooler if interested. Pm me for either.

Not an expert but, the rear exchanger is reccomended, oven for stockers if u ride marginal conditions. I would think u would be ok without the srx base gasket as long as u are using the opticool head gasket( imo the both accomplished the same thing). There are a few different options for clutching, if u do a search u will find a few good setups posted on here by some the clutching experts if they don't chime in on this post.
Studs seem to be each to their own I guess, I have had good luck with extreme max as they seem to hold up good against bending and the large head really helped against pullthroughs in the track, there are other brands with large heads also. I have thought of trying the megabytes also though to see if they grip any better than others, don't think they have the big heads though.
Anyone who can help u with jetting on them pipes will want to know what elevation and temperature u do most of ur riding in. Good luck

jetting you should be able to get from SLP. clutching heelclickers first choice, 8ca's second, either one something in the 48/34 range helix

Im shopping around for a nice SRX rear cooler.
m going to order the opticool head gasket.

Let me guess - you got them off of ebay for $350? You beat me to them!

if I was building an viper with slp pipes, I would use a 01 srx cdi, recut the head to all 24cc domes, srx base gasket, wrap pipes, use rh foot air block off(srx), stock air box and vent to box, port your reed cages and mild transfer port clean up and knife edge, and run it at 86-87, it would be a safe piped viper. You should gain a little mileage too since you wont be using fuel as a coolant. You will still need the large pilots for the pipes to work good even with the srx box.

1.) srx base gasket has little bigger holes to move some more coolant, will help if you have a aftermarket head.
2.) 40-10 h/c's are very hard to beat, they can be set up for quite a few differnt applications.
3.) slp jetting is pretty close, i always bump up the needles even in a bone stock viper.
4.) with pipes your going to have more hp so you could bump up your finish angle a little bit something like 48/36, 48/38, 50/40, 51/37, the helix kinda is just fine tuning the shift for what your doing a drag helix will be differnt then a trail helix.

Thanks for your input so far guys I really appreciate it. I hope the pipes are here this weekend. While Im waiting for parts Im going to start some foil tape under the hood..
Any benefit to adding extra vents in the hood to let cold air in/out?
RevAgent: NO, I bought them on another forum...

What are your guys thoughts on the pipe wraps, how many of you use it?

I found that heat tape that comes in a roll when I did my hood, big enough I could cut to fit just like the original foam, looks pretty good. Got it off ebay its used for automotive heat shielding.

if you ride alot of powder or behind someone alot on groomed trails the wrap will give you more consistant performance rpm wise, when you smack it, it will go right to peak. If the pipe temp cools down the rpm will be lower till the correct temp is achieved.
is it major....no but it does have its merits and circumstances where you need it. ceramic coating the pipes helps as well and it doesnt hold the moisture getting rust to form sooner like the wrap does.

Anybody ever run the pipe wrap, and then cover that in the foil tape to keep the moist out? Or is that just retarded?

When I ran AAEN pipes on my viper i had them wrapped with the heat tape/header wrap. Stuff worked great. Didn't really have an issue with rust starting from the tape holding moisture. Pipes are more than hot enough that it makes the moisture dry right away. What i didnt like with the heat tape is that it tears and all the fiberglass particlea get all over the engine bay. Plus you itch after installing the wrap. For the pipes rpm i would run 8800-9000. They run great at 9000 with a trail port. I'm still using the viper cdi and vented to atmosphere on carbs. I use the srx base gasket and would HIGHLY recommend the srx rear cooler. I have a few clutch setups for these pipes. I liked the 8ab and 8ca weights with these pipes. The heel clickers worked ok too.

What does that air block off do? I removed mine from my srx, maybe I should put it back?BETHEVIPER said:if I was building an viper with slp pipes, I would use a 01 srx cdi, recut the head to all 24cc domes, srx base gasket, wrap pipes, use rh foot air block off(srx), stock air box and vent to box, port your reed cages and mild transfer port clean up and knife edge, and run it at 86-87, it would be a safe piped viper. It keeps your rh foot from getting hot. It is the major exit for air that is heated by the pipes. I remember testing my sled on a spring ride and found out fast what that piece of aluminum was for. Some pipe designs will give you a hot foot on warm days.
pipe wrap makes the pipes more consistant.

So it looks like I need to up my mains, up the pilots, and adjust stock needle, that right?
