i have a 99 vmax 700sx and i had a new oil pump put on it, but i had the handle bars off the sled when they put it on so they couldnt calibrate it. well that winter i rode it and it burned oil like crazy, so i took it to a shop and they showed me how to set up the calibration with the gap on the cable. i messured it and the gap was to big meaning it is running to lean, but i was burning oil like crazy the year before. should i make the gap bigger so it is less oil, or go shorter so it is in spec and getting even more oil? any information will help. thanks!

and i have 6in bar risers so i have an after market cable that is longer, i dont know if that would make a difference or not.

i never calculated the amount of oil to a tank. but i would have to stop like every 20 miles and check it and top it off. and it seems like it is choking its self when i ham on it, it does not have the power as it did before and the sound gets all raspy

Did you buy a new pump or get a used one? I've seen a few fail where they go to full oil as default. Did you have the riser on before when it was working properly?

it was a new pump. and the arm got bent in the process of putting the risers on

If your running an aftermarket oil cable then you can't use the factory specification. I too have an aftermarket cable, I had to start real heavy on oil then slowly lean her down till I got the oil to fuel ratio right.
Good luck,
Andrew

another option is to look at another sled that has the stock cable. (in adjustment of course) and measure where the oil pump arm is at using a reference mark on the case. set yours in accordance w/ that one. if your machine is still consuming excessive oil, the injection system uses check valves that sometimes go bad and will allow extra oil to seep through.
