The top hat filter screens under needle valve seats on triples do they ever plug off and cause lean condition problems ?,should they be cleaned during carb service and reinstalled or removed?

Yes on getting pluged up. Seen it here more then once. Clean every time you clean carbs. And alway reinstall IMO.

To each his/her own but I personally keep mine in place but like Super said they should get cleaned every time you clean your carbs. The float pins are tight so you need to be careful. Alot of guys on here (including myself) use a spring loaded center punch to get the pins out. You do not want to break one of the float pin towers off while trying to tap the pins out. Plenty of info. on here by doing a search ie: float pins, center punch, etc.....

I wouldnt have a problem doing away them. most carbs dont have them to begin with. you could always add an inline filter if you wanted to.
i worked on a sled for a member on the site and they were clogged the sled ran great for about 20 seconds and would just fall on welits face for about 5 seconds til fuel would fill the bowels back up
