so freaking depressed...2000 sxr 700... I finally got brave enough with the help of this board and tackled my own carbs... was actually easier then I ever imagined, It was harder disconnecting and reconnecting the choke cable then it was cleaning the carbs...first carb I took my time, but by the third carb I was able to take all the pieces out and clean and put them all back in like a pro.. only issue I had was bent the little screen thing under the screw under the float..no biggie... it took about 6 hours in total but that's because there was a stripped screw in the bowl that took an hour to get out then I had to run around town to find another screw..anyways, got it all hooked back up, and pulled and pulled and pulled and no go, nothing... I forgot to add, I fogged the crap out of the sled this spring... I put 2 gallons fresh ultra(93) gas in it yesterday.... still no go... carbs were extremely clean, prob didn't need to be done, they looked brand new..(always use startron)... I don't know what to do now... plugs are getting spark... I don't know if its getting gas or If I messed up something with the carbs( I took my time) I don't feel like ripping them out again.. can the fogging oil cause the sled to not start? any tricks to the trade on starting a fogged sled? could the carbs be filled with too much carb cleaner? I did spray the crap out of them yesterday, but I thaught it leaked out by the time I had them back in sled... should I try starter fluid? once again I never start my own sled after fogging as mechanic always does for me, so I don't know if it always takes 200000 pulls or not...once again any hints are great..thanks

pour some mixed gas down a plug hole (not a lot, like 2 soda bottle cap fulls) if you've got spark it will fire. put it on full choke when you do it. it will probably fire and then die. if it does repeat. within 2 or 3 times you should be good to go other than cable and idle adjustments.

do I put this down one hole? or all three? and is it common for a fogged sled to need help starting? I must have pulled 30 times yesterday and another 30 times today.... I did pull with choke open for the first couple pulls, maybe tomorrow I wont open choke.

You gotta fill up all them bowls again. Pour the gas down all 3, like he said not alot just a little. Might have to repeat it a few times to get itself primed back up.
I do 1 soda pop bottle cap down all three holes at the beginning of every season to get them to fire. Sometimes I have to repeat this to keep it running. Then it's off to my garage to clean the carbs.
So anyways, IMO 1 cap down all three.

pull motor over like 10 times with the plugs out. This way you get the gas moving to the barb bowls without killing yourself pulling under compression. Then put gas down each plug hole, plugs back on and choke and pull.May need a second or third time with the gas.My SRX this method started first time,my SXR took 3 attempts with fuel down the cylinders.

While you have the plugs out hit them with carb cleaner or even replace them. They might be fouled or at least not so hot of a spark after fogging oil.

TORS? Did this by accident last year on my buddys sled. Cleaned carbs in the shop with no heat and got in a hurry. Pulled the throttle cable and the TORS kept it from starting. Double check that.

TORS shouldn't stop the motor from starting, should limit rpm to 3,000. Take a squeeze bottle with a hose on it full of gas and fill each carb after you install them. That way you don't have to pull it over so much to fill them.

ok, just alittle confused.... I assuming that the sled needs to be pulled 600000 times each fall to fill the carbs back up... if I pour gas into the pistons, how does this fill the carbs up? like I said, im not an engine person... and someone once told me spraying stuff in the pistons is bad? maybe it was starter fluid, but I will pour some premixed gas down, probably different then starter fluid... but what do I know? LOL... im dumb when it comes to this..thanks for the help...

Also forgot to mention, when i look at carbs and the small gas lines ontop of them it looks like there is no gas, looks like air, is this because they are still empty? And will pouring gas down pistons fill it omce it starts???? I have learned so much here, thanks

did you my my post #6
again..remove plugs..pull the start rope 10 times or so..this creates a pulse which in turn gets the fuel pump to start sucking fuel and sending it to the carb bowls. Then add fuel to cylinders..replace plugs and it should fire..may have to do the gas in cylinder trick 1 or 2 more times until it stays running...make sure the choke is opened fully as well.Works for my sleds.I refuse to pull 80 times now to start engine in the fall. When she starts she will smoke as hell..beware of the fumes as I was still tasting that smoke in my mouth all day..or out on a good respirator ..
Now if you criss crossed some of your wires to the coils or from carbs..this could be an issue..as I went thru this one year..but if you have spark..then do the gas trick and carry on

this might sound stupid but take a deep breath cup your hand over the gas tank and blow in the fill spout but be careful not the inhale. blowing in the tank will push fuel to the carbs.

Also, the reason you put gas in the spark plugs holes is not that that fills the carbs but the short time the sled runs it is sucking the gas from the tank filling the bowls for you instead of you doing the work by pulling a million times. Are you sure you hooked the correct fuel lines to where the go?

I will doublecheck tonight.. seems odd, probably pulled abour 60 times total yesterday. Would think after 60 pulls carbs will be full.. gonna buy new plugs as these wete fogged also in spring. But still don't see gas flowing thru carb lines. Like I said, hope i didn't screw up carb cleaning

as long as your floats were not stuck or tabs bent wrong.BUT does it fire when you put gas down the cylinders,if it doesn't then you are not getting spark..check the wires again also.

unless you changed the lines to a clear line you will not be able to see fuel in the lines.....unless you have x-ray vision. just teasing a little.
the small clear lines I assume you are referring to are the vents, you dont want to see any fuel in those.

How full is the tank? Even with a little in it it may not be enough to pull into carbs. Been there

To clarify your earlier post yes ETHER/STARTING FLUID=BAD or at least less than desireable. It has ZERO lubricant and is HIGH OCTANE. Even straight gas has at least a little lubricant.
