what kind of coolant do you use?

in the sleds whatever I happen to have kicking around (standard "green" antifreeze), never had a problem and until I do I dont see a point in changing my ways. As far as Dexcool I've had it in my 02 gmc since day 1 and 175k later have not had a problem. I also have it in all my muscle cars with aluminum heads and radiators with steel blocks. again, no problems. to each there own.

If you want to cut/paste some links from another forum to help yourself feel better I understand.

If you bothered to read the stuff you would have found out why the issues are present. Not much cast iron (most issues are in vehicles with cast blocks when the coolant gets low). Copper radiators in a snowmobile engine? (none that I know of). Aluminum is aluminum made in the USA or not. ultimately, yes it can be a problem if you let you coolant get low for long peroids of time. It will outlast green stuff three time longer, and has better lubricants for your water pump, and cools better.

BTW I have been a mechanic for 20+ years, and have seen alot of coolant systems with the old coolant that were shot. I have been running dex in my vipers for 7 years no issues.

Read the links, or find your own info, plenty of it on the net. listen to the scientists and engineers not idiots like me.

P.S.
As far as Dexcool I've had it in my 02 gmc since day 1 and 175k later have not had a problem.
Lets see if the old school coolant lasts that long!

Its not that the green coolant last that long, the problem is dex-cool is marketed for 5 yrs/100k miles. Buy that time everything is badly eaten away! ITs a GIMMICK. Dex-cool uses 2-EHA which honda and toyota do not use in their extended life coolant...Hmm. Its all a marketing scheme to sell the consumer a car. 100k sparkplugs that misfire at 60k. 7,500 mile oil changes that wipe out cam phasers, timing chains, and journals. Its all to appeal to the consumer because people want maintenance free! DEx-cool isn't what its cracked up to be. Here is some reading for you. http://www.sancarlosradiator.com/dex-cool.htm and make sure to check out the pictures, as a mechanic im sure you seen this 100 times. http://www.sancarlosradiator.com/dex-cool_pics.htm

I read your articles and it does not back you up. The snowmobiles are not "air tight" do not have coolant surge tanks that are designed to remove air from the cooling system. And one of them said that dex-cool came out to early-before closed de-gas bottles and thats what caused the problem. I dont think the srx or viper has them either. Better get that special radiator cap :dunno:

Had my motor apart this summer and the passages look great, also have 14K miles on that sled around 10K on dex cool, original water pump seal, so I'm not going to worry about it.

Chris a friend of mine has dex in his rev, and swears it runs cooler. Has A thermcouple on his EGT that he monitors it with. If you sled runs hot maybe dex is an option. You can use wetter with dex.

take it or leave it.

Lets make the point and move on... we dont need to argue... run want you want but to push the fact is overbearing.

I have always thought the Coolant debate was crazy. For instance Mercuiser recommends the Orange and Volvo recommends the Green. Now, this is exactly the same block assy's as well as the same type of heat exchangers and exhaust manifolds. Odd to say the least. Just aggree to disagree. Anyway, I stock both types of coolant, plus we have the Yellow which is supposed to mix with all. Al
