rear axle shaft -wont budge

trying to replace the bearingsin the rear wheels, and for whatver reason I cant get the shaft out.. Got the nut and cotter pin out and the plastic wheel on that side. If its like my srx, that shaft (bolt) should be able to slide out, right?

I dont see any circlips that would hold anyting on the shaft.

For whatever reason, she does not want to move at all.

Anything uniquie to the phazer setup?

any ideas?
 
You probably have the adjusting nuts backed off and the axle moved forward, but have to say it just in case. One or more of the spacers might be corroded onto the shaft. Use some penetrating oil and hit the shaft from both sides to loosen it. Good to use a brass hammer and put the nut on flush with the end of the shaft - or a block of wood and a regular hammer.

the skid is completely out of the sled, and yeah I put an inpact socket on the end of the nut and gave her a few blows.

I just gave it a big dose of liquid wrech and ill let that sit overnignt... hopefullt that does the trick.
 
ya it seems to have moved about a 1/4" from the hammer blows... Seems the shaft is corroded to one of the bearings...as everything turns no problem (spacers, shaft itself). If its like everything else in this suspension, its never been removed before. They guy who owned this phazer obviously didnt maintain the suspension..... 2 of the inner idlers were down to metal!!

Going to try to pry it loose tonight, after 24hrs in shop sitting with liquid wrench
 
Had the same problem with the axle on my SRV.
It was corrosion in the centre wheel bearing.
Be very careful hitting on the threads on the axle, very easy to damage.

yup..and yup

middle bearing was corroded and threads took a bit of beating.. salvage shop close by had nice one and new nut for 20 so its all good now...
