What can I do with my Stock Exciter?

Hey guys, I am new to this site but i have a question. I recently bought a 1989 yamaha exciter 570 deluxe and i've been wanting more performance out of it. Most guys say to put a new clutch and exhaust on it. I've been looking for exhausts but i'd like something that will give me more power in the low to mid throttle range and im not sure which exhaust is for me. As for clutches, im completely clueless. Any help? Thankx
 
Ive been looking at one. When I install it, are there any basic guidelines as to how much higher(size wise) i should jet my carbs? I have standard 320 main and 42.5 pilot jet Thankx :letitsnow
 
That's a great old sled man. Bender or PSI made great pipes. I might even have one around for that thing. I'll have a look and see what I've got around. Clutching will make a BIG difference. Especially after that pipe. I like the Thunder Products heavy hitter clutch kit. You can clutch for ANY gearing and ANY pipe. Great setup and a great company to work with.

There's a ton you can do to that sled. If you want some great help from some real smart "exciter" guys check this group out.

Hey... if you get real ambitious you could turbo the thing and put a 151" on it. :D
 
P.S. There's a dyno report on all the different pipes and jetting/clutching charts to go with it on that facebook page.
 
ran my psi single with 166-q-6 nozzles,6fl82 needles,updated vent lines,plugged power jet lines,330 main with stock airbox,340 with cutout,1 turn on screw.

Under most conditions going up one jet size seem to work on a stock motor with the single pipe. I actually had one of the early version DG singles that was pretty much of a copy to the PSI and it ran like it too . I went up one size with zero issues. DG got in trouble for copying the pipe and later changed it to the one that had the extra silencer dump can underneath the main can towards the exit. I tried a whole bunch of single pipes on an Exciter SX with a Dynamite portable dyno around 15-16 years ago. The top runners were the PSI/early DG and the Bender single. Then with around the same HP but less torque were the Decker and also the Supertorquer single...then finally the AAEN single. The HP ranges on that engine were close to 100HP all the way down to the low/mid 90's.

Do you have any input on the later DG single pipe with the center outlet ?

The reason I ask is that you can still buy that single pipe NEW from DG for the bargain price of $ 249.99 ;)!

No I was not familiar with that pipe. I remember seeing photos like this one. It does look similar to a "RPC" Reichards Stealth pipe though. We had one of those too but we ran it on a 1991 Exciter II which was hard to get any gains with without changing the CDI box......long story.
