I finally cleaned my own carbs in sxr last month, but i keep hearing about syncing them? Usually my mechanic does my work but i saved the money this year and did myself
How the heck or what the heck is syncing the carbs? How do i know if it needs to be done? Thanks..

Redneck style. tape your throttle open 1/2 to 3/4 way, make sure it does'nt move. i usually find a socket that fits snug into the carb. ure measuring the distance the slide is open. once u find a snug fitting socket check the other two carbs. once set u should have the same feel between all 3 carbs. once done verify your oil cable setting. This way hasn.t failed me in over ten years.

I highly doubt your mechanic ever checked sync and you prolly dont need to either. Syncing is more necessary on sleds that have the goofy multiple cables to carbs. Yours is a rack mount with one cable. Theres a write up in the the tech section as well as a few other threads you can find by searching "sync" as far as the red neck style mentioned above.....first I have everheard that method. I cant remeber exactly but seems one of your carbs should be slaved (non adjustable) A set of drill bits works great for this. With carbs in idle position find a drill bit that fit slave carb (by fit I mean between carb thoat and slide) then adjust other two to match. Similar to what he said but in idle position and no find a what ever match er up!

Thats how i check mine but never had to adjust.
Im liking the idea of the socket check because it gives you a true throttle position comparison. If there is any play in the slide linkage, checking them at the idle position may not reveal it.

I check with drill bit while cleaning and eye-ball them as I move throttle to WOT position. The tape part scares me, got a socket or what ever in there and tape slips.......Possible slide damage...or your finger!

As far as the tape, Id definitely not suggest using Scotch tape!! lol and all your doing is sliding the socket in and out...shouldnt have your fingers in the way at all.

Maybe I just have an over active imagination......When I watch sliding up and down my mind always goes to 2 things, Cigar cutter or guiateen!
