Fuel Shutoff Valve

I'm sure this has been asked many times before, but a search hasn't provided any results.

Has anyone added a fuel shutoff valve to your SX chassis sled, and if so, where did you put it?

Is there a benefit to having one? I hear its better for running the carbs dry for summer storage, but I'd think you'd still need to clean the carbs prior to winter so is it worth it?

I'm considering putting one inline somewhere, but not sure where to put it. The only fuel line I see is hidden behind the airbox and is only about 12" long. I thought about cutting that line and adding an additional 12" to bring the fuel line out from behind the airbox to add a shutoff valve, but I don't know if that will mess with the fuel flow or not.

Any thoughts on the topic?

Added security feature if you need to leave it somewhere (bar/restaraunt) Turn it off when you go in...should some one try to ride it away they wont make it very far!

I was thinking a clear filter and a shutoff, would be nice to shut the gas off when being trailered too. (flooding pos)

Im surprised there hasn't been more discussion on this topic. Im guessing not a lot of people have done this to their sleds, which is fine. Im on the fence still. I wish I knew if adding the extra length of fuel line would restrict flow at all. Maybe i'll just have to try it and find out. Thanks for the input above guys!

I have done it 2 ways. One just in the line that loops up and back down from the gas tank. You can reach it easily by lifting the hood. The other way I drilled a hole in the footwell and used the type designed to fit in the hole with a threaded nut. My major reason was to minimize the distance a thief could travel. Nowadays most sled thefts they simply pick the sled up, or steal the whole trailer. Many sleds are a lot harder to start without the key or fob.

A word of caution though, be careful adding extra line or filters that allow more places to leak or let water pool and freeze. Just keep that in mind if you add extra line. As far as the filter, there is a good one in the tank. It can be fished out and changed with a little effort.

Some earlier Yamahas actually came with a fuel shutoff. I have never looked at retrofitting one of those setups but it might be worth looking into.
