2002 SRX No Spark

depends on what scale you use and your multi meter but youd need at least 3-4 volts or the pick up coil is bad, also depends on how fast you pull it over but you get the idea. should show you varying voltage when pulling it over on your meter. if the pick up coil doesnt supply enough voltage to the cdi it wont have spark, this is whats wrong 80% of the time with no spark and the flywheel ISNT rusted. Rusted flywheel... thats usually the problem with a first year start up no spark problem after sitting, the flywheel is rusted and blocks the signal for the pick up coil. :whine:
Thanks I will check the voltage I am getting out of that. I checked with a slower than normal pull and only got 0.5 volts. The flywheel also had some very light surface rust on it so maybe that is part of the cause.

Too bad it wasn't the CDI...that would have been simple.
When the CDI I sent you shows up you may as well just turn it around and send it back.

Thanks Bob its too bad that didn't fix it, I will send it back when it arrives, let me know how much shipping was.

Well now I have an 01 SRX 700 with no spark! Bought sled this spring, heard it run before I bought it, checked it all over when I bought it. Brought it home and summerized it. Sat in a 4 place enclosed trailer all summer. Cleaned carbs a month or so ago and didnt even try to start it. Tried firing it up today and no spark :o| . Key switch is screwwy, have to jiggle it to get it to turn 1 click, WONT turn to second (warmers) Didnt dink with it as I had other sleds to fire up. On a good note the 98 600,99 700, and 00 sxr 700 fired right up!

Just tested the pickup coil for ac voltage with a good pull and the highest I got was 0.9 volts. I cleaned up the outside of the flywheel to see if it improved but it did not change. Would this indicate that the pickup coil is no good :dunno:

When trouble shooting for no spark problems...I have never checked a stator or pickup coil by voltage but always tested them for resistance. It seems to me that if the resistance checks then there are other issues that are killing the ignition.

I checked my viper a couple years ago and I seam to remember getting a similar reading. I think your pickup is okay. Its got to be something else. Didn't you add electric start to this thing or something? I'm thinking wiring.

I'm having the same problem no spark, I had spark earlier today when I tried it left it for abit went back to put everything back on no spark oh well everything back off again found the 3 white wires coming off the stator were all green and corroded so i'm in the hunt for a 3 prong connector 2morrow

lol that's too funny, you ride an apex right? No I think it's a viper actually. It was so busy saturday, I must have seen over 150 sleds all day.

Anyway I think it was a faulty connection at the keyswitch, I also learned that the keyswitch needs to be plugged in on the newer srxs to run unlike the older sleds. It did it once more and I just wiggled the keyswitch wires and got spark again and it has been fine ever since. So I will go over it more in the summer to see what is actually going on there.

98-99 srx(old 175 watt single bulb system) will run without key being plugged in the newer 2000-05 dual bulb light sleds have to have a wire jumped to work without key switch.

I picked up an 09 Nytro and I was riding that. Waved at ya on the rail line. It was stupid busy, never seen that many sleds in that area in one time in my life. Took us 2 hours to get gas and lunch in Whitney.

Just got back from Quebec. My dad was riding my viper, I rode it for 5 minutes on smooth trails and I had to get off of it. I miss the sound, light steering and warmness. Thats about it.
