I had to replace a brand new battery in the Nytro today. I put it on a shop charger at a slow charge for 8 hrs but it wont hold it for too long.

When I went to Oreilly parts for a new battery, I saw something on the shelf very interesting. Its a solar panel charger that can mount on your trailer anyway you want it to with suction cups or screws. thing measure 6 inches wide and about 16 inches tall. Puts out 125 mAmp 15v has alligator clips and 8 foot cables.

This should keep batteries good in storage in any location
 
I had one of those and used it on my truck battery when it sat outside all winter.One day came to start truck and battery was dead..so it went in the garbage.Its up to you,they aren't expensive.
 
I have seen guys use them on boats with some success. I say why the hell not, give it a try and let us know
 
yeah Tom..better you waste your money first and then we will know its crap..LOL. Seriously for me it was a waste of money.I think it sucked the battery instead of charging it..was my theory..its in a landfill somewhere now.
 
Ill keep this thread updated, Im going to be riding the Nytro for about 10 days and plan on several hundred miles.

It will be in storage in the trailer for a length of time after that. I will post pics of volt meter readings and make a video of starting the motor after a few months.
 
a few months? you riding for like 10 days then done for the season?? I thought my season was short :(
 
We use them on our derby car batterys off season.Great for small batterys that are not old.But will not keep a battery that is on its way out from going dead.

ahhh, thats right. thats why a short sled season, right?
 
ill be on my way home around then also, I'm on the canadian side of the river though. Do you ever ride near bay mills as we might be over that way around the 28th i think. buddy has a camp at birch point right by brimley state park
 
So, did we really get the 16" that the local news was blabbing about in the Soo? I haven't been over that way to check it out. Also said that Kinross got 18"...

the nytro sat in the trailer all year with the solar panel hooked up. 1 flip of the key and it started right up..... Battery was holding at 13 volts when I took the charger off with no drop
 
Just buy a new battery, if your battery is so weak it won't hold a charge, the .25 amp solar charger will never keep it up. Good luck Al

The way I read his post, he did.

Battery life is proportional to full charge status so the longer and more often you can keep it at full charge the longer it'll last. Inactivity (no charge cycles) is a killer especially in cold weather.

IMO - Plugging it into a sled that sits in a trailer for more than a week during the season is a good idea but it's real worth is during long term storage at a place without a 110 outlet used for a traditional battery tender.
 
it all depends on accessories on the sled. my rx never needed one. I should have used one on my apex over the summer but it was in the garage on the charger 3/4 of the summer while I was waiting on parts. apex has a clock that is a constant draw just like my wr250x. I keep the bikes and the lawnmower on the next size up panel in the shed over the winter. no problems at all come spring and bike time!
