srx 700 clutching

I hear you blue, I have 8bu-10's that are loaded and had trouble pulling rpm's earlier this season. The last few days rpm's have gone up by about 300-400. I wonder if it's the weather in Winnipeg (Temperature and Pressure). I had the srx on the river and was holding 160 km/h with about a 1/4 throttle. Gunned it and saw the dream meter read 180 km/h and felt she had more to go. And believe it or not this is with 23-39 gearing.

I had an 81 SRX 440 that recorded 160 KMH when it was -20 and I was going down the road with about an inch of ice on the surface. Here we are 30 years later and only going 10 MPH faster than that ole 440. God I miss the those times.

Where's my Rupp Nitro and Merc 340 Sno Twister? Definately don't make sleds like they use to.

ok blue i finally got some testing done.first off i have a new belt on it so sat. testing just wanted to put some time on it and not ruin a new belt. so i started out with what was on the sled, the only thing i changed was the rivets in the weights to both holes having 4.5 grams. so primary has 8dn-20 weights with 4.5 rivets, y-w-y spring. secondary had hauck 49/41 helix, pink marked yamaha spring wrapped @ 60 degees. snow was 3-5 inches deep but temp was 33-35 f oh yeah track has 144 studs up the middle on a 3/4" lug predator track. like i said i just wanted to put some time on the belt not horsing on wot just 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and feel how the sled reacts because i've never rode an srx before. my previous sleds were, 97 mach z and 2001 xc 700 so this ride is something alittle different from those. so i put on approx. 10 miles on sat. with that set-up just for a baseline to start with and could tell this set-up is kinda set-up for maybe long drag racing with the sec. at 60 degrees and all. most of the runs that i did were maybe 100-150 yards long so not anything to hit 100 mph but on one run it mashed the throttle and watched the tach and was at 8000 rpm's and holding. i only held it for a couple seconds and hit 70 mph right now and had to shut down for a corner. holy crap, now i know what the thrill of the yamaha srx is all about and just like a crack addict you want more. i thought the set-up was ok but for aggresive trail riding this seemed alittle lazy at the lower rpm's still impressed me though. so knowing the temp being warm and the snow kinda mushy i packed and went home. overnight we got a lite dusting and 22 degrees so got-up early and went back to my buddies house and changed the clutches to the settings' you suggested. primary has y-w-y spring and the weights already set. sec. has 51/43 helix, green spring wrapped @ 70 degrees. big difference, this is more like it. we did alot of tight twist trail riding around grape vinyards and found a straight-a-way 200-250 yards long to open it up a couple of times and see the difference. i wish it was longer but i made do for today. wot the rpm's set at 8100-8200 and holding , like i said wish it was longer but it is what it is and i had a ball. the ski's lifted off the ground for a short ways and it shot right-up to 70-80 mph and then grabbed a fistful of brakes for corner. i'm very pleased with this set-up and hopefully on tues. can go ride with another buddy who has 2 fields that are attached to each other end to end making approx. 3/8 to 1/2 mile long wot run. he's got a 97 mach 1 and has taken down everyone in our group dragracing, it's clutched and studded. but he knows he's out gunned so he's been pretty quiet lately so tues. night i'll update with some results and keep a eye on the rpm's for good power range. sorry so long but just trying to draw a clear picture. thanks for all the help and glad to see you've found the sweet spot.

That is weird because mine has changed by the same amount..h'mmm!!
can we bottle our secret weapon Paul..something in the air and we can bottle that and become rich..

Kyle..keep up the good work.It is hard to test on a wet sugar like snow,it will lug down the rpm's.Need a good packed area and a little cold air...but it is what it is for now..have some fun.
