Thinking of adding electric start to the wife's phazer as she has a hard time pulling it over, especially when cold
Realistically, how hard is this to do?
What all would I need to accomplish this?
Thx

Any electric start from any 97 to current proaction start will work. Very easy job and lots of good write ups in tech section. Only difference will be the starter lead connection but very easy to hard wire if needed. Do a search lots of good info there also. If you need help just pm me, ive done a bunch of these

Even though this is from my vipers they are pretty much the same. http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/showpost.php?p=484471&postcount=4

But I know you can do it otherwise. If you can re build an SRX motor, this will be a breeze..I think...

LOL..... 4 years was enough.....
going to check the tech section and get a parts list going I guess

so I have the ring gear to bolt to the primary, starter, relay and wiring, but no battery yet.
Also, on the phazer, there are these 2 wires with female wire ends, coming down from what looks like the key switch.
Does anybody know if those are the 2 wires that go to the relay? (ill snap a pic asap)
The electrical connection on the relay housing looks like it accepts a male snap-in type plug, but at the same time when i look close, only 2 of the 4 tabs are clean, the other 2 are corroded... so again im thinking those pigtail wires in stock harness are the wires that need to connect to the relay on those tabs
Does that make sense?
Thoughts?

I wonder if I am missing a harness that plugs into the relay. if so, anything else from what you can tell? are there any voltage regulators, rectifiers etc?
Sorry for all the newb questins but never had a sled with e start, nor tried to add one to a sled

If the phazer is like any of the other late model proactions ive worked on to put e start in it should be a connection at the right footwell that plugs right into the relay.

Those are for the reverse

Keep looking lower. You may have to unscrew the cowel where it goes into the gas tank and where the hood latches. It will be under there.

your relay looks fine, just clean up the ends a bit. Find that plug under the cowl and it only goes on one way.

Your not missing anything. All proactions are wired for e start. The newer ones have additional fuse box, but you wont need that for this sled.

Ok so the only "spare" wires is a 2 wire plug. The plug that goes into the voltage regultor?? ( in right footwell area) fits perfectly into the relay. Do i move it from there to regulator? See pics

Man I'm just not sure. Maybe the phazers are a bit different. I'll do some digging and see if I come up with anything. When we added e start to a 97sx and 98 xtc the plug was right under that cowl, and just plunged right into relay. Maybe that model plugs right to relay explaining what your relay looked like. See what I can find.

Another thought is your battery does become the regulator with e start so maybe your right on that thought. Just thinking out loud.

Where does this battery mount? Looking at parts it still like like it mounts in front of engine by pipeon clutch side like the older ones? I'm confused now. Or does it mount by chain case.

chain case has the flat ledge on it, and Id assume it would go on there. Problem is Ive never seen a Phazer with E start so IM guessing.
Looking online there are big differences between the phazer and "phazer deluxe" harnesses so I may have to get my hands on a deluxe harness, which would be good cause I'm going to install reverse on it for her too.
What's funny is that rectifier thing on her sled, that plug fits perfectly into that relay housing
Worst case, there has to be a way to make it work with what I have, even if I have to install a separate push-button type switch to act as starter....just need to know which wires on that relay to jump to. (aka what wires/tabs do what)

Here is one of the post I'm looking for to help ya. Your 99 may need the harness from the relay to the starter plug. It is there somewhere. It will be a red, red/ white, and black comming from by the ignition somewhere. Check by cooling hose harness. This post will help ya once you find that starter end.

ive checked and checked and checked...no spare wiring anywhere that would plug into that relay..the only one that does is the rectifier thing in the picture above. else that 2 wire plug in other photo
PS no coolant hoses either, she fan cooled.
So if I am going to go the route of different harness, i need some expertise here, as far as what models would be compatible
Do i need ONLY a phazer deluxe harness? would a venture harness work?? If i used alternate sled harness, would I need the CDI too?
i ASSUME and twin cyl engine in pro-action skid would technically work, as there's really nothing to the wiring.... small little CDI, one small rectifier etc...
I just need to know if I can expand my search for an E start wiring harness.. for now im looking only for Phazer Deluxe harnesses, bt Id hope Venture's and others would also work.
May take ride to sled salvage place this weekend too, see what he has
