Went out for the firs ride on the machine to the Cottage yesterday, round trip was around 90-100k. Sled is a 97 Vmax XT 600. The
First issue, is I burnt about 8 Gallons of gas for the trip, where typically I should not even burn a full tank. There was another Vmax with me, that actually pulled a Sleigh for the whole trip, and he only burn 3/4 tank.
Second issue was after riding for awhile, I noticed I would lose power. I would have to be at 3/4 throttle just to maintain speed around 70-80K, and there was no power left. Stopped and Changed spark plugs, they looked clean, there was some brown/Black, but really it looked like some had been washed off. After sled had cooled down, it was much more responsive, power seemed normal and much snappier. But after another 5-10 K, same issue would happen.
Used about 1/2 tank of Oil, so I think oil consumption seems normal, Never seen any overheating light or anything else. Carbs were cleaned and Adjusted last season, and I didn't have any issue's last year, should I be looking at Carbs for this?

You should clean your carbs every year.

my opinion, carbs need to be gone through every year. you might pull them apart and find everything is good. but if you dont and things are bad.....

Yes, realize and plan too. The sled was stored an hour and a half from me, and didn't have the chance to go over it before this ride. I guess the question, is does this sound like a carb issue, or something bigger?

sounds like a stuck float or some gunk in a float needle. but need to check and see.
