Seems like they have gone cold. Even if they are on max, the hand warmers give off NO heat, or maybe just a tad, like if it were on 1. The thumb warmer gives off maxx 2, maybe. I have checked the obvious, the connections under the handlebar pad, they seem to be in order. Ever since I got that handlebar riser they have been just a shadow of what they were. Also the sled has been sunk once. All the other electronics seem to work like they are supposed to, where do I begin?

we have the same problem with the XTC..warmers not working,but the handlebar grip always hung an inch past the bar and eventually ripped the grip and guess the wires..let me know what you are doing to test them..Maybe your switchs are shot..any broken wires..
Grab an ohm metre and check the resistance of all 3 components individually,the thumb warmer should be around 72 ohms if I remember right and the grips I can't recall right off but if you have the service manual it should give you the spec.If the resistances check out then start doing voltage checks at the connections just remember your looking for AC voltage unless youv'e got electric start.

that is correct and the thumb resistance is from 37.0 to 45.2 ohms at 20 C

Not to contradict you blue but when I ohmed out my 01 thumb warmer my meter read like 71 ohms.But I do remember that spec of 37-45.2 for my 98.I'll have to double check my reading tomorrow.bluemonster1 said:

get your self some of them HOTSHOTS for now..that is what my stepson will be using since his warmers don't work and he will not be able to work on it until next summer..Anyways just came back from riding..pretty cold out but sled likes it that way..

well I hope it snows here.Last 2 winters were bad and this on is not adding up to much,but at least it came early.My cousin does snow clearing for the City and Private.He has been sitting home more these past few winters then working..only so much maintenance he can do in his shop to pass the day.Talk to ypu next Year..lol
OK, here are the results; (done by 2 who have no or little experience with measuring these things)
Measured at about -5c, warmed up a little with a hair dryer:
Resistor for handwarmer: From low setting (1) like 10-20 to like 565 at the highest
Resistor for thumbwarmer: Pretty much like the handwarmer. From a couple of tenths to like 560-580. The manual says from 400 ohms? to 600. So it seems like this checks out.
Thumb warmer: 41 ohms, which does sound a little on the low side. It works, it has a tad of warmth on it when on maxx setting. On the continueity test, it gave 68..something. Ohms? EDIT: Is it getting too little current? Is it supposed to be 12V? (Excuse me for my useless knowledge in electric terms). I guess the next thing is to check for a chaffed wire?
Handwarmer continuneity test: left: really low/high? reading, 5 ohms? Right handwarmer, no response, so I guess they are broken right?
Have I interpreted the results right?
I need new handwarmers and a new thumbwarmer? What is this switch the manual talks about "replace handwarmers indivitually or both or the switch"? What switch?

I can't help with that..sorry..electrical is not my forte..
I would say your grips are both shot but the thumb warmer may be ok,the grips may be drawing current away from it trying to power a bad circuit.norwegian said:
You seem like your reading the ohm meter correctly and yes if you do a voltage test it will be in the neighborhood of 12-14 volts AC.
The switch would most likely be the dial you set the temp with,it is what's called a potentiometer it varies the amount of current passed through it.
Doing a check for bad/broken wires is never a bad choice,it's good to stay on top of those issues.
