Has anyone packed a sleeping bag and slept in the sled trailer?? We have a 27' Rance Renegade which is insulated barely, walls and roof only. We were thinking of camping out with cots and sleeping bags. If we used the gas heat to preheat the trailer and then turn off. Do you think it would stay warm to sleep all night?? I have used a infrared to heat the trailer to over 70* to dry off the sleds in the past. I know it is not safe to sleep with that type of heat, so we would turn off before we go to sleep. Any thoughts??? Al

I havent myself but know a few guys that have. The one guy has a wall mounted heater/furance you would see in a small house(has a 30lb propane tank mounted on the tongue) and the other uses the coleman heater deisgned for like a ice shanty.

I think you would be fine with good gear and maybe an electric wall mount heater that you could run off a marine deep cycle battery if you had to turn it on for a bit to warm back up. I wouldn't run propane though, its bad enough working in a garage all night with ventilation then waking up the next morning with a wicked headache. I know you said you would pre-heat it, but I wouldn't risk it. could make for a rough day of riding....with a headache that is.
I dont think the trailer will hold the heat for to long maybe a couple hours at the most if you pre-heated. If you had like said above an electric space heater or a forced hot air type so that you are not breathing noxious fumes. How many guys you thinking about sleeping in the trailer?? I know the trailer isn't perfectly sealed but what about having enough air transfer to support life for each of you.... I dont know the specs on how many cu. ft. of air we consume an hour... Just sounds very risky to me... I would worry about falling asleep and not waking in the morning... Thats jsut me.alswagg said:
i have had people sleep in my 28' enclosed several times. used a mr heater type unit with the 02 sensor and built in fan. on low it would run all night with the vents cracked open along with the occasional air change from nature calling.
air beds were the ticket for comfort along with heavy duty sleeping bags. not as bad as you think if your careful with the heat source. out of the weather and body heat seem to warm the place up. there are a few 12v accessory heaters that plug into the cig lighter that may kick enough heat to take the chill off. i would use a designated battery if you opt for that route.

Might help if you hung a divider (blanket/canvas) trying to keep an area warm is easier when its smaller.

You'll be just fine. Look at it this way, it's definately better than a tent or pop-up.
One last thing........GOOD sleeping bags are a must or you'll be miserable.

We have two roof top vents and two side vents. Not worried about air flow. The trailer does hold heat great. Usually when we ride, we park the snow covered sleds inside the cold trailer. By morning, all snow and ice is melted from the sleds.
If we do snow camp, the sleds will be parked outside at night. For sleeping, we do have extreamly good sleeping bags as well as great cots and pads. We are just thinking and discussing.

Another thought I just had. My grandpa used cans of sterno to warm up his deer blind. It was a pretty good sized "condo" He used an old popup and put hard sides on it with shooting windows.

Using any hydrocarbon heat source sounds like a good way to wake up dead... (or at least with a MASSIVE headache!)

I camped out in a VERY VERY old pop up back when I was a kid in the 70s. More moth holes than canvass. Closely resembeled swiss cheese. Glacier National park in early spring.
