The water vapor in the air will condense inside the passages in the carb and freeze up constricting the flow and cause the engine to bog, cut out, run lean or even not run at all.
Its not very common in sleds, especially yamahas since a lot have heated carbs, and the stock air box seems to catch some of the moisture before it can enter the carb.
