This sled have been driving me crazy. Does not run properly under load.
Cleaned carbs twice, checked wiring harness, checked reeds.
If i rev sled on a stand seems to work great drive it down the street and punch throttle and doesnt pick up speed and sounds like its not firing properly.
Any ideas.

Tryed this on a sled .....in the dark with a cold moter and running remove the spark plug caps.Lift them watching the sparks going to the top of plug lift higher and see if the current starts to jump at the location that the wire goes into the coil to the brackets that bolt the coil on.If it does try some jb weld or epoxy to seal it up right at the entrance of the coil wire.

I think when under load it was jumping there instead of full power to the plug.

Thats a good test and I will try this tomorrow. Sure seems like missing spark

Was sparking like crazy one cylinder and did not pop a plug the rest of the day after.Do the plug wires come out of the coil for replacment>>>>???I dont think so but dont no for shure. There was gap were the wire turns up like it was yanked at some time.Probably me on the trail at one time lol.

A bad stater will cause this problem as well.

ok, well lets see if its the stator, unplug the headlight and tail light on it, unhook the handwarmers as well under pad. run it and see if it cleans up.

Im with the stator being shot or check your flywheel and make sure she isnt rusted up. Obviously you have a ohm meter and know how to use it so I would ohm the stator. If you go to tech pages there is a listing of what wires to test off of and what your readings should be

thanks guys. I cleaned the mag as it was rusty and I put a little silicone on the plug wires on coil end. Fired up and ran just fine. Thats what you get when your friend leaves the sled outside all year.

I have almost the same issue as you on this one but backwards. My 700 sounds to be running on 2 cylinders idle. But has the power when I start driving. I also put 3 new spark plugs to see #3 plug would be wet or just burnt. All 3 of the plugs where the same, a bit burnt with a light brown.

When #1, #2 Cap on and take #3 cap off it sounds that same as when all 3 are connected.
I take #2 cap off and it sounds like it lose power. I put cap #2 back on and take off #1 cap and get the same result as taking cap #2 off.

-Now take #3 and #2 cap off and it loses alot of power. But still idles.
-I take #1 and #2 off and the machine dies out. Does this mean #3 is not working properly? Or Cylinder #3

I dont know if there is a problem or not. But I am really confused with what is going on.

Yours sounds like a carb issue. The pilots are plugged. When you are driving and you get out of the pilot and enter needles the issue goes away. Clean the carbs really good and blow our pilots and fuel chamber with compressed air and your problem should go away.

I will try this out.
I had just bought this sled from an older guy. This sled was insanly clean. It had 4400km on it. Sounded really great at the guys house til I got home to put it in my garage. Said his sled sat steady since 09. Since trails and snow doesnt come as often. Only took out once in a while just too keep fluids moving.

The easiest way for me to check cylinders is with temp readings of the pipe. One of those laser thermometers could be your best friend.
