I took my battery out and put it on high end charger/maintainer. I haven't started it in several months. No snow only grass but I tried for a bit to start it. No luck pulling it but I got to wonder since the electronic ignition it has may require some DC from the battery even if its weak.
Does anyone know if it will run without a battery and start.
Thx

Guessing this is the 97 venture? I know the newer venture/vipers have issues with no battery but it seems to me the 97 should at least start/run with out one. Older single bulb sled right?

Yes, as in the footer so I did not mention it. One bulb as well. I'll try it again another time. It has those Smart Cabs and sucking the gas up sometimes takes more work whein it hasn't been used in a while.

I remember seeing something about the CDI getting fried without a battery. Something about the resistance of the battery is needed for everything to work right, when that's missing things get un-happy. In short, you can't take electric start off a sled without changing components to make everything happy.
I tried starting an 01 Mtn Max, dual bulb sled though, that had electric start. That sled would not start with out the battery.

Oh no,SXlover said:I tried starting an 01 Mtn Max, dual bulb sled though, that had electric start. That sled would not start with out the battery.
Hmm that begs the question. After a half dozen pull starts if any damage is done. I guess I have to put the battery in next time and see. My son who reads up on on this stuff and on the Skidoo forum says guy buy new sled with the e-start and pull them out and sell them to shed the weight. Same should apply here since the stator had a seperater winding for charging.
Bugger...in advance it thats happened.
when a yamaha sled is built without eletric start, they have a capacitor to help with power for the lighting. on e-start yamaha's they use the battery instead of the cap for the same job. if it didn't run it should be ok.

Thanks, much appreciated. The output for the power can't be that much hand pulling the engine. I'll post the results when I go back to the cottage in PEC and try it out. I am putting the battery back in first. LOL no worries on that one now.Maim said:when a yamaha sled is built without eletric start, they have a capacitor to help with power for the lighting. on e-start yamaha's they use the battery instead of the cap for the same job. if it didn't run it should be ok.

Ok I am back at the cottage and I took the battery which I had on a maintainer desulphating charge for a couple of weeks. I cranks pretty good and did not die down after a couple of minutes of cranking off and on. My gas tank was dry and priming the lines took a lot of effort.
Good new is there was a spark with the battery in and it did eventually start and stay running. Reverted to one cylinder a few times but finally got them both running and took the sled out and up the road but there is too many stones and hidden treasures on the path with maybe 3" of snow. It suppose to rain 10-15mm tomorrow and maybe the day after as well. Bye bye winter. Oh sorry the snow never came and stayed just passed through. Ahh no sledding again this year it appears.
