I have 2002 viper just purchased, keeps darting all over the trails. Any ideas what to adjust to stop this.

darting = new carbides
studded = new carbides
old/oem carbides = new carbides

I am researching carbides so I thought to throw that in. Unless pitching is different than darting in what you mean here....I am learning this as I look into setting the 02 Viper I just bought....

Make sure the skidframe is setup for your weight with the proper amount of sag. There is some stuff in the technical pages or do a search if your not familar with this stuff. With that sled being a 1998 how are the shocks? They could very well be due for rebuilding as well.

Ifthe above doesnt pan out.... When in doubt......throttle it out! The harder your on the gas the less ski preesure you will have. Less ski pressue = less darting!

Do a search on here on darting. be endless amounts of info on a cure for your sled. On the vmax"s we would put a 1/4 in shim on the back, underside of the rubber block that is between your spindle and where it mounts to ski. If that explanation makes sense. Go to BETHEVIPER set up that will help you immensley.

Are you studded? What size are the carbides/are they in good shape? If you look at the skegs are they worn down in the front? If so, you need to shim em'. I recently purchased some Bergstrom skegs for the wife's sled.They came with the ski savers and the shims. Sled was a nightmare to ride last season.... It's like a completely different sled now. No darting whatsoever. Just my .02.

Had a horrible handling sled a few years back. Worn non-studded track, with new carbides up front. I could barely keep the thing on the trails over 30 mph if the snow was a little loose.

X2 if you get those ski tips raised up (by putting the shims under the backside of the rubber) it will be a new sled

I just did the shims on my SRX ski's and it made a huge difference.
I started with suspension setup and setting the toe and at 40mph on a narrow packed trail it was scary. I'm talking tear you off the sled if you didnt have a death grip on it.
Yesterday I ran an old rail line for about an hour. 80mph with not a thought of getting yanked into the tree's that have crept up to the trail edges. ;)!
So, after getting your sled dialed in for weight and riding style, try the shims.
It's a cheaper alternative to rebuilding the shocks just to get you going.
I myself have to get my Ohlins rebuilt, but not till next year. Shims did the job and did it well for now.

Bergstrom triple points with shims and ski savers totally fixed mine too.

No darting anymore. Not trying to sound like an ad for them but good product.

I put over 10,000 miles on my 02 Viper before going to a 09 Nytro XTX. I had the same darting problems with the Viper even after extending the track to 136” and putting on a Cobra track with no studs. The shims under the backside of the rubber works wonders but I didn’t get rid of the darting completely until I put a double carbide on one ski. FYI, I am now working to cure a nasty darting problem with my Nytro. :o|

Buy tuner skis or arrows for your nytro. this will take care of much of the issues the sled has. next you might want to look into the spindle lowering kit sold on teh 4 stroke side. I have a set of used arrow skis for sale if your interested. Havent pulled them yet to get pictures. I have two sets.

Dual carbides, new skis, shims, begrstroms. They all help. It depends on your budget. With stock skis, bergstrom tripple point are the way to go. I put different skis on my viper.
