We have a "98" 500 XTC Deluxe with reverse. I am considering changing the lower driven chaincase gear from a 39 to a 40 tooth. I have already dropped one on top. When I was looking in the tech & info sections I did not find any combinations listing a 40 tooth lower with a reverse chaincase on any sled. This may be a non-problem, but I would like to know before I start looking for one only to find out this is a no go. Thanks for any info.

They only offered a 39 for reverse sleds using that style gears. You would have to switch everything over to newer hyvo style and that would cost alot.If you wanted to lower gear ratio down more without changing to smaller top gear.Only thing to do is put in 8t drive sprockets.Myself i would just leave it the way it is.

If I were to go to a 20 tooth drive gear would I need to go to a 68 link chain since I have already dropped one on top already? It has original 70 link now.

take a grinder, and take the head off a chain pin, punch it through, take a link or so out, then put it back through and take a welder or goto a welder and put a beed on the pin.

Does anyone know for sure that the 70 link chain is to long for this 20/39 configuration?
you could go as far as a 20- 41 with out changing chain! anything less you need to go to 68..so 20-39 will not work!

Thanks for the info. I have a Xct 500 with reverse so the 39 tooth is the largest I can go far as I know. I will have to break down and buy the chain as well.
