i have a 99 500vmax that goes good, then every once in a while its like the secondary is stuck. come to a hard stop, then hit the throttle and it wont go, its just bogs down like the brake is stuck. it seems like the belt is jamming in the sec. clutch? if i twist the sec. to open it up it works fine again. any ideas?

take your seccondary off and look at the jack shaft bearing, and look for groves on the the clutch sheave. also push the clutch in and look for smooth operation

That was my intention. I did when I was writing it too. I'm just glad you didn't take it the wrong way.

thanks for your reply, its got new a jackshaft bearing, and the sheave looks good. it does have a comet clutch on it, [there when i bought it] that i thought might be the problem, but it seems to be in good working order.roudyroy1 said:take your seccondary off and look at the jack shaft bearing, and look for groves on the the clutch sheave. also push the clutch in and look for smooth operation

A serious answer here now. I would check the spring to make sure it didnt break. Also when you take the spring out you can check for slop in the bushings. Sometimes its hard to tell when the clutch is assembled. Secondary buttons could be worn...correct belt?
