Why is it suggested to not do either the reed spacers or the head gasket layer removal (I am not sure which they are referring to) in the tech section listed below on the 500?

RJ, just to double check, your sled was a 500 right?
On the 500 the Squish band may be at the correct spec, and if you do the headgasket mod you may be to tight on squish, causing detonation and a burn down. The reed stopper mod is to open or gain clearance on the 700 motors as the port is partially blocked from the factory.
To gain performance on a 500 you may be wise to upgrade to a 600 Triple or bigger as the hard earned coin that would need to be spent to add horsepower to a 500 will not be worth the money spent to gain the power. If you spent the same type of money for power on a 600/700 triple the power gains are almost twice as much.
So, maybe a little clutching and gearing may help you out in the short run. Sorry...

Yes, mine is a 500, it was my trail sled, i have done alot of suspension/clutching/chassis blue printing/to get where I was happy with it,local radar runs I was running a consistant 92-95mph in 1000', It did do a 98.6 one race but everything must have been perfect that day, all I could back it up with was a 96mph, remember HP isn't everything when it comes to speed, a little time in the garage/shop and taking notes makes a big difference in performance. just my 2 cents worth!!
