Ever since I have had this sled new I can't seem to let it idle for long with a cold start. I'm in the process of checking the cable for the oil pump so figured I would ask in case anyone else had this problem and figured something out to fix it. 18-20mm free play on oil pump cable is the shop manual so I'm at 19mm right now. Just going to check the settings on the pump for idle and move the freeplay at 20mm to lessen the oil a little at idle. Also using NGK plugs that are recommended but I'm wondering if I should change the type to a hotter plug? Input is welcomed.

The oil pump puts out specified amount at idle, so you are really leaning out the oil in the mid and upper ranges, be careful. as these engines are not very forgiving to reducing the amount of oil.
You may actually have an issue with the choke plungers hanging slightly open check the free play on the choke lever cable. Does your machine idle okay when warm?? Maybe the idle is to low?
Your plug heat range should be fine, but cant hurt to go to the next heat range up. By changing to next heat range it is not like the plug sparks hotter, it actuall will hold more heat in the plug under normal operating conditions. Just a FYI.

I understand and thanks for the advice. The manual specs say 18-20mm free play so I adjusted to the 20mm after I checked the freeplay on the throttle. I'm assuming that the only way to adjust the oil levels at idle is changing the main jets I thought I would just ask in case someone had a better idea to try. Idle on the engine is good I have it at manual specs as well. I've heard a few people with the 483cc engine having troubles with plugs so I was wondering if anyone on here had this trouble and what they did to fix it.

Main jets don't affect your idle, you have to be wot for a good bit before you even transfer over fully to the main. Do you have factory pilot jets? And maybe try turning the pilot screws in 1/4 turn. My sled used to do the same thing when I had a local shop rejet it when I first bought it and it had a can on it. I adjusted the fuel screws and took care of the problem.

Seriously change the spark plug caps. When i bought my sled a plug was fouled from the start. Replaced all of them and it would do it again. Found the original owner ( bought from a middleman) and he laughed and said to buy stock in ngk. I replaced the plug caps and now have been using the same plugs for 3 seasons! It always happened when cold mostly.
