you cant gear down too much or youll never hook up in snow, but for short runs youd need to be around 21/38-1.81 ratio, 21/39 is 1.86 ratio. This has worked pretty good for me in the past for snow drags.
ice you get way,way better traction and you can gear down deeper, same with grass.
thanks I'm finally starting to understand gearing and clutching , and your help has been really apreasiated,

mr. viper, about what would you charge to set~up a primary and secondary for someone if they sip it to you? ballpark price? thanks
What's the engagement on this setup
So do you put 4.5 gram rivets in both holes of the weight or just one? Don't understand, you should only have to change out 1 rivet in the weights.mrviper700 said:for a stock engine use 8dn20 weights,4.5 in both holes, w/w/w/spring in front clutch, 54/46 dalton helix with green sec. spring at 60-70.
you should only have to change out 1 rivet in the weights, and 8dn20 weights are stock in the 2000-02 srx's
.
correct take middle one out 3.6 and replace it with 4.5JSTYER said:So do you put 4.5 gram rivets in both holes of the weight or just one? Don't understand, you should only have to change out 1 rivet in the weights.

I'm going with this set up on my SRX. I just got a set of the 8DN20's and it looks like I've got 4.5 on the tip and the other looks to be 3.6., I think, I posted a couple of pics of what I have.Would it still work ok if I left it with the 4.5 and 3.6? I would change it but I don't have any 4.5 rivets right now.

I just tried thus setup yesterday on my 02 srx and love the mid range pull in the fields I played in. One problem though, on a steep hill climb with lots of loose snow and bare ice below my belt started to squeel and primary got real hot and I had to shut her down. Basically left a lot of belt residue in the primary. This was a brand new belt and perhaps my primary just needs some scuffing up but has anyone had problems with this set up in deep snow? I'm just wandering if the 54 initial angle doesn'tallow the primary to grip tthe belt hard enuff ?

Mine isn't so great in the deep snow either, I might try and put the stock primary spring in it, may or may not help but I'm gonna try it.
