SRX chain alignment

I'm putting my sled back together today after doing the bearings. Nothing but the case itself is buttoned up and as I was putting the gears and chain back in place, I noticed the chain sticks out about 1/16 inch past the lip of the case at the top gear while the bottom is inset about 1/4 inch. The chain seems to be aligned looking from the front, but the tension wheel does not come flush with the leading edge of the chain either.
Case is tight to the tunnel, so the top sprocket should be sitting where it needs to be. Ya I know, take pics as you work if in doubt. I just didnt notice as I disassembled it. It is back together the same as it was disassembled.
Normal? Is the case built wider/deeper at the bottom?

that is not correct.Chain must be equal distance in from top to bottom.Take a straight edge and lay across the case in different spots.The chain should ne in the same all over.Possibly you reversed the 2 collars by accident.One is thinner then the other.If you run like that,you will probably wear the gears and chain prematurely .Remove the sprockets and chain and check them collars behind the gears.Probably need to switch them to get chain parallel to case edge.
 
Just goes to show you cant trust the previous owners to do shyte right.
Thats just one more thing on a growing list of shoddy workmanship.
1-1/2 studs, temp plug wedged under the motor, tors discoed, air box not seated to the carbs, bolts missing randomly.
I laid everything out as it came off and I'm not new to wrenching. It was the bottom gear in backwards.
Unaligned chain and bad bearings explains why this thing was so loud. My buddy rode it and I could hear him 1/4 mile down the road. Thought it was just the studs and carbides at the time. Now I think differently.
Wonder how much difference there will be in noise and vibes. lol

I now have 1/8 inch extrusion of the chain all the way around.
 
If he got the bottom gear backwards make sure he got the spacers behind the gears right too. Thick one behind top gear thinner one behind the bottom gear. You have my sympathy for all the screw ups, I went through the same thing when I bought my sled. My chaincase bearings went on my second ride, the guy had replaced them already and he put the sealed end facing inside the case and the exposed ball bearings facing out. They were a little dry!
 
All buttoned up and ready to go.
It's still just below zero here so I'm going out for a run to see how it feels now.
Just have to align the track and add some chain case fluid.
Biggest chore is dragging it out the shop. lol
