Had a great ride sat. But ran into trouble at end of night. My 98xtc ran great all day and most of night. Then the headlight started blinking, then finaly went out. Shut off sled to restart and nothing. No spark, nothing. Left it at the gas station for night. For the hell of it i gave it a few pulls and it fired right up. Runs strong but headlight dims with brights and warmers on full. Thinking stator? Wanted some confirmation before i start tearing into it. It sat for a long time before i bought it so im thinking it might just need a good cleaning. Going to follow mr vipers post. On a side note my starter wont crank, just buzz when i hit the key? Related im not sure. Battery good, i tested it. Thanks for the help. Chris
Either the stator or a rub thru
My 97 did the same thing a few years ago. Run fine, warmup, run bad or not at all. Let it sit and cool down and it would pop right off again. Replaced stator and no problem since
agree with these guys, thats a classic redhead stator problem......
When stator warms up it grows and grounds out. Happens a lot on them.
