I've seen some SX700Rs out there that have electric start installed on them, and I am a bit intrigued. From my days at a dealership I remember it was an option, and we had a few kits in stock, but there was never any interest and they sat on the shelf in the parts room where I put them when Yamaha sent them to us.
I also remember putting these kits on the shelf, and remember they were very heavy. I want to say 70 lbs, but I may be wrong.
While I'm not opposed to electric start the older I get not only for the convenience factor, but as a backup if, God forbid the rope ever breaks, but I fear the weight penalty more than anything. Especially considering that a 220 lb passenger is already a fair a load.
If in fact that kit was 70 lbs, how much of that is rotating weight?(I never opened the kits and fondled the ring gear)
What does that do to the ability of the machine to rev, and accelerate?
What does one do for clutching? Do you just treat it as if it was a DLX?
Thoughts?
