Jetting for Piped Viper

Hey guys I have 2002 viper with speedwerx pipes. Right now im running stock needle height, stock pilot and 165 main jet.

Was thinking of running 162.5, rasing the needles to 3.25 and a 47.5 pilot jet.

What is everyone else running with thier pipes?

The plugs are black right now, and it feels faster giving it 90% throttle than full throttle, but still dont wanna burn down the motor. Doesnt foul plugs or anything, runs really good. Just dont want to leave any power on the table. I run neck and neck with my brothers yamacharged apex, im about 1 mph faster on the top end, but would like to be able to beat him. :2strokes:

I found this dyno chart, but it has v force reeds, I know for skidoos it tells you to jet 1 size leaner with reeds, dont know how that works with one of these yamaha motors.

Used the search, couldnt really find anything usefull. Looked at every post too, 3 pages worth about pipes.

alot of mountain jetting or big bore, nothing on stock motor
 
I'm at about 1200-1400ft.

162.5 mains
47.5 pilots
4.0 needle
2 7/8 fuel screw

W-W-W primary spring
17.2 mm rivets in both holes

I have the jets on the way. Will try the higher needle setting at first to keep things safe and see how it runs

Your welcome. I'd stick with the heelclickers. I've heard a lot of good things about them. I just did the spring and used my stock weights since it was what I had.

And you were right about there not being much for Speedwerx pipes on a stock motor on this site. I spent a lot of time searching and asking questions when I put them on a Viper. Even contacted Speedwerx themselves about it. They recommend to put a shim under the hood hinge, which I did to keep the pipes from rubbing on the hood. I still had a few little issues with that.

Speedwerx stated the pipes for the Vipers were outsourced to many different places and therefore no 2 sets of pipes fit the same. I was running the Speedwerx triple pipes with them all into a single can.

What I posted is just what worked for me. I'm sure it could maybe be fine tuned somewhat. I also had it set up somewhat rich so I could run it at -10F to -15F if I wanted it. Take the time and read your plugs in each range. Low, mid, high. And be warned, fuel mileage isn't the greatest running pipes. But the power and sound is sure fun :)
 
Ya I did the hood shim so it doesnt touch the pipes. Used roll of that aluminum tape on the hood and belly pan as well as the powervalve cables. Havent had any issues with melting



Fuel mileage is brutal, but its either go fast or get good mileage. Last ride we did, the apexs I was riding with used 22-24 liters on one stretch between fill ups, i used 38!!!! I give it alot of WOT and was leading the way. As it is now I can beat srxs from any speed pretty good. A stock viper it isnt even fair for me to race one.

Exactly right, go fast or get mileage. They are sure fun. Glad to hear you are enjoying it.
