Need stator test specs for a '97 600 XTC

Coil test specs/help for a '97 600 XTC - losing one cylinder

Hey,

I'm having an issue where I lose spark on one cylinder, then it won't go faster than 40/45 mph. I'll stop and let it idle for a couple minutes and sometimes the 2nd cylinder will start firing again and it'll run great for 100 yards or so (after running wide open, or better than 3/4 throttle) then I lose the second cylinder again.

I've completely disassembled the carbs - they were all clean/clear, I've replaced the spark plug caps with NGK units (testing at 5000 ohms) and have tried replacing the plugs twice. None of that has made a difference.

If anyone could let me know which wires to test on my stator I'd sure appreciate it. I've got the stator here on my desk right now.

I've got 2 connectors the small one that goes to the flywheel sensor has two wires in it (green/white and red/white), they measure at 219 ohms (2000 ohm setting on my multi-meter).

I've got 6 wires in the main connector they are :

White
Black/red stripe
Brown
Yellow/black stripe
Yellow
Black

I've searched the forum, but didn't find any test info specific to the Vmax 600 twins.

Click on tech pages then scroll down to misc. click on that and you will see voltage specs that will give you what you need.
 
Thanks for that info, I went to the main tech page then scrolled down to the miscellaneous folder :

Then clicked on the "Voltage specs" link.

As far as I can tell, I should be at 250 (+ or - 10%) to 315 ohms between the Brown and Black/Red wires. I'm at 260, so it looks like I'm good there which is actually disappointing. I was hoping I'd nailed down the source of my problem..

I moved on to testing my coil, although I'm not sure if I'm testing it correctly ? This is what I'm using as a reference :

Keep in mind, the 3rd and 5th illustrations are for the 700.

I pulled my coil off of my sled to test it, I removed the plug caps and when I put the probes from my multi-meter in the leads (20k ohm setting) I get 4.63 ohms which is in spec. When I connect my multi-meter to the orange wire and the mount for the coil on the primary side, I get 0.00 or -0.00 as a reading.

If I change the setting on my multi-meter from 20k ohms to 200 ohms I get a reading of 00.5, my assumption is that my coil is shot ? My sled did start/run, just didn't run very well.

Any ideas ? I'm at a bit of a loss right now.....

Check in the back of that manual I sent you I think it's within the last 10 pages. It will have the stator test specs and which wires to use for the 600 twin, it will be in a chart with other specs.
 
It lists the same specs that I posted above, here's what the manual lists :

If I test the secondary coil (plug leads) I get 4.68 with my meter set at 20k ohms. If I leave my multi-meter on the 20k setting and test the primary coil I get 0.00, if I change it to the 200 setting I get 00.4.

Which setting on my meter am I supposed to use to test the primary ? I'm assuming the 200 ohm setting ?

Either way, my guess is that my coil is shot ?
