Hey,
I'm having an issue where I lose spark on one cylinder, then it won't go faster than 40/45 mph. I'll stop and let it idle for a couple minutes and sometimes the 2nd cylinder will start firing again and it'll run great for 100 yards or so (after running wide open, or better than 3/4 throttle) then I lose the second cylinder again.
I've completely disassembled the carbs - they were all clean/clear, I've replaced the spark plug caps with NGK units (testing at 5000 ohms) and have tried replacing the plugs twice. None of that has made a difference.
I'm working on to testing my coil, although I'm not sure if I'm testing it correctly ? This is what I'm using as a reference :
I pulled my coil off of my sled to test it, I removed the plug caps and when I put the probes from my multi-meter in the leads - testing secondary coil (20k ohm setting) I get 4.63 ohms which is in spec.
When I connect my multi-meter to the orange wire and the mount for the coil on the opposing side - to test the primary coil, I get 00.5 as a reading. That's with my multi-meter set to 200 ohms. I used my disk grinder to clean up the posts to make sure I'm getting a good connection, they weren't too bad but wanted to make sure it was making good contact.
My assumption is that my coil is shot ? Going by the pic posted above, I think I should be getting 0.16-0.24 at the 200 ohm setting on my meter. My sled did start/run, just didn't run very well.
I did post this under my stator post, but thought I might catch someone who knows coils better than I do (which is pretty much everyone). Any ideas ? I'm at a bit of a loss right now, I don't want to buy a new coil if I don't need to.
Thanks for your help...
