Sounds like I need a crank for my srx (after about 3 miles lol)
On the upside, it didnt quit running,in fact it starts and runs fine .There is a rattle at idle and when moving the clutch ahead and back there is a clunk.
Also a screwdriver on the centre cylinder doesnt move right away when the crank does.
Anyways, sled has 7300 miles, rebuilding on a budget do I need to do pistons at this point if they look ok?Will do rings probably and gaskets/seals.Its a $1000 sled so i dont want to go too crazy
I rebuilt my ZR900 top to bottom but have never done a Yamaha.
Thanks for any info.

If the bearing let go, i would assume that piston is junk. All that material goes up into the cyl. Shouldn't be too costly with good used parts.
I have a good crank and good pistons if you end up needing them. PM me if interested.
Tear it down and get a look in there.

before you tear things apart, there is one thing I would check. On the stator side of crank there is a woodruff key that holds the rotor in place on the crank, not the brake rotor. I thought I was dealing with a bad crank one time and it ended up that this key was worn and would do basically the exact same thing you are saying.

Wow thats good to know!Rustman said:before you tear things apart, there is one thing I would check. Although it still wouldnt explain a screwdriver placed on top of the centre piston not moving right away when the clutch is turned though. But I will definitely look there first!
Thanks!

Cant really formulate an accurate re-build plan until you tear it apart or at least start to tear it apart. Depending position of piston when putting a screw driver in there that maybe normal. If piston is bottom dead center there will be a short pause in piston travel as crank rotates. If piston is half way up or down then yeah it should move as soon as crank does. Crank/crank work can get pricey due to the center bearings require crank being pulled apart to replace said bearings. Tear it apart and go from there, might end up an outter crank bearing or two some yamabond and crank case seal and your back in bussiness. Theres a few engines on here for sale that may be cheaper and quicker than getting your crank rebuilt if thats the case.

Well, I found a guy on Kijiji that had an 01 Venture for sale, and would trade for Yamaha sleds running or not,so he is going to part out my new to me SRX.A venture is what i wanted in the first place so it worked out ok.Got a smokin deal on the SRX so lost little if nothing on the deal.Hopefully the redhead treats me well
Thanks for all the helpful replies guys!
