I have a 99 500sx that I just bought this past fall. I took it to my local shop that i always have service my sleds and had them go through the carbs and so on for this season. After putting a mere 120 miles it has developed an issue. While riding last night it started backfiring on decel like when i came to an intersection. Once underway it went like normal. Upon inspection today i noticed that somehow one of the bolts has fallen out of the reed cage where it mounts to the cylinder and has of course blown the gasket out. My question is besides needing the bolt and gasket should i also order new reed petals and new reed stoppers? and if i do have to should i replace both sides (meaning the reeds in the other cylinder) at the same time? Also does anyone have a step by step of carb removal on the twins or maybe a service manual in a pdf file? Thanx in advance for any and all info.

just follow the carb cleaning thread and you should be fine. i would at least put new reeds into it as backfireing is not good for them and odds are it is time.

Thanx I'm gonna be pulling it apart here tonight I probably will do just that and order a new set of reeds for both cylinders.
