Mag side crankcase full of gas.

We went for a ride Sunday night. about 15 miles into it my daughters Phazer II would only run on one cylinder. One plug was almost fouled, the other was clean as a whistle. Changed plugs nothing made any difference. We towed it to the shore and left it. I drove back and got it later. Today I pulled the carbs off and cleaned them again. I pulled the reeds off to look at the pistons and the Mag side was floating in fuel. I pulled the exhaust off and the plugs and pulled on it until it dried out. My floats look the same and needles look good, but I'll double check them before I put them back on. My question is, could gas have gone down the surge line? Does the surge line go to the mag side or the other? Just was curious before I put it all back together. There was no gas in the PTO side.
 
Someone will come along with a "for sure" answer., but most engines
have the impulse line to the mag side , and a perforated diaphram will
fill it up with fuel. Some had plugs in pto side for an impulse line but not
often they use them...
Maybe squeeze the line closed with some grips after clearing the extra fuel
and see how well it runs on just the fuel in the carb bowls until it stalls
and pull out the plugs and check for excess fuel in mag side .
Any one add a primer ?? they will draw when broken as well, pinch them
shut too.

Try using a Mitey Vac on the pulse line as well as the pump to confirm what Ron is telling you. If they're ok it will hold vacuum. That, or a bad needle and seat.

Its either the the fuel pump with a bad diaphragm, or its the needle and seet in the carb, blow on the gas line and open and close the float to see if the seet is bad(measure it and set to spec), also take off the float and shake it to see if there is gas inside of it I have seen that before on copper floats.
 
I will re-check the floats and needles as soon as I can. This has flat slide carbs, so the floats are not copper. The seat looked good when I checked over today. BUt I will see if the needle & seat seal good to each other. he floats looks like they are set the same, I checked them recently when I was jetting the flat slide carbs. But I re-check them, asap.

Yep. I put the flat slide carbs in, bought them to upgrade the old butterflies. When I got them I pulled everything out, put new jets. At that time I made sure everything measured to specs, float height, etc made sure needles and seats were good then. I even made sure the slides were synced. I have cleaned these carbs every time I changed a jet, while I was dialing it in. The last time I had it out, was because a gas line broke and was spitting gas everywhere, I rechecked the float height then, and pulled out the needles and seats. These carbs are clean as a whistle. I cleaned them again today, I simply eyed the floats this time since I had measured them recently. The needles appear to be working, but I will verify the needles are working tomorrow, as well measuring the floats again. I just was wondering if the surge or impulse line went into the mag side, I had a feeling it did, but didn't visually verify it today. Thanks for all the replies!
 
You wouldn't have a rebuild kit for that pump laying around would ya? Or mabey a pump that you know is good? A rebuild kit is a whopping $5 from DK. Is it a round or rectangular?
I hate to be Mr.Obvious, but, did you insure that the affected side isn't in partial choke?

Partial choke was not something I checked... thanks! I will be buying on those rebuild kits from DK also, just to be good.
