Hope someone can help me out FAST!
have an 04 viper mountain, had no spark after running fine then sitting for a week. Replaced pickup coil as it was testing bad, 140kohm.
Sled now has spark and starts, thats about it, no lights, tach, nuthing. As soon as throttle is pressed to bring it off idle it dies. TORS is bypassed. Stator tests good at .4 ohm for each coil, 4.5-7v while idleing on each coil. They all dance around 4.5-7v.
Any ideas what else to check? Have gone over complete wiring harness and all looks fine, unplugging dash/headlight connectors it still dies if i try to bring it past an idle

i had one due this rectifier was bad plus also relay somewhere if i remember that causes that

i'll check that, i do get a solid 14v at the load control relay, relay tests fine but doesn't mean its contacts are good. I'm going to try bypassing it in an hr when i get back out there.
I wouldn't think this would cause it to die anywhere past idle though???

bypassing relay gives me lights and tach, still as soon as the throttle comes of the stop it quits, WTF
did u bypass the one in the throttle handle

thanks for the suggestion, but just tried it out and same thing
At this point I'm thinking CDI
Is it possible the pickup coil took out the CDI? The pickup coil i swapped in was from a vmax 600, resistance is the same as spec for vipers, i would assume they're all the same afterall it is just a loop of wire??

Stator ! Plug wiring maybe its in the harness

well, replaced stator today, actually tried 2 different ones, still have problems
original stator - once sleds going no lights, dash, or tach, if load control relay is bypassed no tach at dash, as soon as you try and rev it at all it quits, whether relay is bypassed or not
other 2 stators - no need to bypass relay, lights and dash come up sometimes, able to rev it, but will die when idle comes down, unsure if their was a tach signal or not
swapped back to original stator now
out of ideas and ready to burn it!!

well if you hang on tight..the new 2014 Viper is back...electrical can be a pain. After so many tries at it I would probably burn it as well or sink it.Don't know why electrical issues are huge this year..but it is.

Have you gone through the wiring harness under the motor yet, as well as in the left footwell and the handle bar area?

if you bypassed the load control relay and then the lights and stuff works, you have a dead short somewhere in the harness!
so that takes you back to where you started, what happened from the time it ran great till it wouldnt start....
so has to be a mouse or rat or chipmunk did somthin, pull the harness out and look for the issue

from the time it worked great until all of a sudden nothing it sat, only a week, wasnt touched. the ride before it was in alot of powder and it was getting into everwhere.
i've pulled the complete harness and looked it over

probally the easiet way to find the bad short is to check the continuity of the wire, check from both ends, see if its open/broke. just pick each one by color and find the other end, put your meter on it and see.
still will need to remove all the tape and especially the section under the engine although if it ran great before, hard to see that being the spot but they ALL go bad there anyways so your not wasting effort.
also pay attention to the wires going to the rgualtor, 3 white wires from stator plug into this goes to reg/rectifier, check those, seen those burnt to a crisp before,or connector melted.

i spent the morning ohming out each and every wire against each and every other wire and gnd, wiring is good, been triple checked now, everything from components, back to cdi, voltage reg area all tests fine.
Wish there was a better way to verify cdi
symptoms are, hard to start, if you can get it going, it will idle all day, any gas it quits, load control relay not being energized. when bypassed dash and lights are fine, but no tach signal

04 was first year for dcs so youd need a 04 up, but did you plug the other sleds cdi into yours and it ran good now? an older one 02-03 cdi will fit but the dcs wont work.
