So what i have on the sucker is a bender can, which sounds pretty friggin sweet and stuff. Chainsaw meets crotchrocket.. but it seems to be farting, so we call it. When i go to start it i need to choke it...which is stuck unless i use a pliers to manually close it, that solved the sound problem the first time. i am also running BR8ES plugs in it instead if 9's cause those got nice and black on me when i used them. I just found 2 nice brown plugs in the sled and a brown/ black one. Could the sound be because i am running rich? I had a arctic cat dealer clean the carbs and they said they where pretty bad 140 dollars later.

If your plugs are black definitely running rich, but if one was brown Id say your carbs are probably out of sync, which would also cause it to sound a bit funny. Also Id put the BR9ES plugs back in, Yamaha tells you to use those for a reason, and switching plug types isnt going to solve any problems. Most likely changes to the WRONG plug will make things worse, cause your running the incorrect plug temp. Also you should have to choke it when its cold no matter what.
So here are the things Id do if it was my sled:
1. Change the plugs back to BR9ES before tuning anything!
2. Adjust pilot screws on all three carbs to 1.5 turns out brom bottomed
3. Fix choke cable and adjust
4. If still having issues, synchronize your carbs or have them synchronized
The main reason for putting the plugs back to stock is that the BR8ES's run hotter than the 9's, meaning more risk of detonation. The only other reason I could think of for the "farting" sound would be a leak in your exhaust somewhere.

I ran the 9's because of the colder temps out here in upper michigan. I'll attempt the 9's again tomorrow when i fix the speedo on it. Then go for a short run and check how black the plugs are afterwards. If still black i'll try the carb suggestion. How would i go about fixing a stuck cable. I can choke it but the choke does not disengage when i flip the switch back.
going to depend if its the cable or something in the choke itself. If you suspect its the cable to could try lubing the cable (either by taking it apart or by using a cable luber) Or buying a new cable

As for the colder temps its nowhere near cold enough to warrant running hotter plugs, I run 9's in my 600 twin and its fine even down to -35. The coldest its been run in this year is about -38 and its runs like a charm.
If it doesnt run right with the plugs it was meant to have then there will always be somethign else wrong. Also did you happen to check or ask the dealer that cleaned your carbs what jets were in the sled??

The part that sticks happens to be on the left side, it is the part where the cable connects to, it is a lever looking thingy. I'll get a picture of it when i go to fix the sucker later today, It is snowing big time right now here in the U.P.
