As for the 96 pipe is the appearance different than the 94 or do they look the same? Also i just looked at my clutch and in sharpy it says its off a 97xt? Any better? Sorry just picked one of theses bad boys up for a 100 bucks

The GYT pipe is bigger, as is the Y-pipe bolted to the engine. Your best bet is to find engine bay pics of 94-95's to compare with the 96 600's. There may be some on this website, or certainly craigslist and other used powersports for sale websites.

Is the pipe worth it? I gutted mine on my 94 was expecting to be a lot louder. And primary clutch.
It's worth it if the price is right, I wouldn't think they're too expensive at over 15 yrs old. It was a popular upgrade for the 94-95's back then.
Primary clutches are similar design, but the 97XT clutch likely has some upgrades, and it may or may not have the same tuning calibration as the 94 clutch. Either clutch would work fine, at this age the better one is likely whichever has the bushings/rollers/weights/spring in better condition. Only way to tell what you really have is to take it apart and inspect/measure.
