Ive got a lot of great help and ideas on this sled but my problem still isnt cleared up.
My problem is a low end bog.Ive cleaned(4 times)and put new factory jets in the carbs.Checked the reeds, bypassed tors and banged my head on the wall but nothing changes.
When cold it will start right up and run as it should.Nice clean and crisp. After about a minute the idle will drop down and begin running rough. If I rev it up(on the stand) a few times I can get it to run good on the top end but a few seconds after ideling down it runs rough again.I pulled the plug wires 1 at a time while running and the clutch side and center make a big difference but on the mag(stator?)side there is no difference at all. When I lower the sparkplug cap close to the plug I can hear it sparking but no difference in the way it runs.I tried switching the coils around but no change. Also, while reved up all three cylinders are firing, its just like the mid-range down to idle i loose the mag cylinder.
Other things ive done...year before last stator, checked the plug wires and caps, checked fuel pump and vac hose. Also when I pulled the carbs today all the floats were full but when looking into the cylinders with a light the clutch and center seem a little wet but the mag side seems dry.For those that might have followed the other thread"sx700 no oil" the cylinder thats not running right is the 1 with the highest compression out of all three.Im at the point where I dont mind taking it in but I want to rule out everything i can first. thanks Al

check crank phase. Use a degree wheel and see if it has 120 degrees between each cylinder, if you dont have one you can do the backtard way and it will stil tell you whats going on.
Bring each cylinder up to TDC, you can even use a phillips head screw driver in the spark plug hole and turn it till its at its highest, mark your clutch sheave with a perm. marker at top.
Then move to the center, mark clutch
Then to the mag, mark clutch,
you should have a even amount of space between your marks, or 120 degrees apart. I am thinking youll find the mag one is not the same as the pto and center space. its spun on the center pin.

mr viper,i checked it the "backtard way"and my marks are not the same.I used a piece of cord to measure between the marks and 1 of the marks was 1 3/4" off the other about 1" off.How does this happen? What now.i think I know what your going to tell me.Thanks...I think! lol

well it was supposed to say "backyard."
motor needs to come apart and the crank trued and welded, its a big job but certainly not worth parting it out over. I would say to have the crank trued welded is around $200. freshen it up with new rings and crankseals, put it back in will give ya alot more service yet.
I have a 97 sx in my shop for the exact same problem. same cylinder moved to the mag.

I like backtard better!!!i think I'll tear it all down and have a go at it.it was time for a top end anyway.
