Hyfax Melted To Track Guides

Was on an ice covered road and hit the flapper for a couple of seconds. Came to a screetching halt only to find a couple of guides melted to the sliders on both sides. Not fun getting those loose again.
 
Oh that sucks. I've had them get hot before, but I haven't had them weld up like that. I've heard they are hard to free up after that.
 
invest in some ice scratchers.My hyfax will last up to 3 seasons easily..hard pack or ice running..and marginal wheels plus over sized idlers and rears.This all helps.
 
That happened to me this year after riding the river for a mile or so, stopped a lot quicker than normal then couldn't get going again. It took me 10 minutes to figure out what happened, I thought it was something real bad.
 
That's usually a two person job, have a buddy lift the back of the sled and you kick the track down without tearing his arms out.
 
I thought I seized a bearing. Had it on it's side but couldn't figure it out. Then I could smell burnt plastic and realized some of my guides were stuck to the hyfax. Found a rock and a sharp branch off the trail and EVENTUALLY free'd it up. It's always something with these PITA sleds. :o| :o| :o|
 
usually you could smell that plastic before you go to far.I once had my track so tight with brand new hyfax and within minutes could smell it going down the fields.But like I said earlier..with larger wheels,marginal wheels and scratchers..my hyfax seems to not even wear uneven anywhere and goes a good 3 seasons at least if not more....I am using the scratchers every time since the snow is hard now..love the white out behind me and feel sorry for anyone following me to close.It will throw chunks and hit the guy behind in the face shield..got to love it..lmao
 
After a long high speed lake run my riding buddies Nitro XTX melted the sliders badly but we hadn't noticed until after we came out of the restaurant. We all fired up and when he backed up he peeled the sliders right off the rails! His wife had to drive 150 miles to come and get him and trailer him home... he is now forever called "One Way Larry".
 
I too had a hyfax come off on me. Same scenerio, came out of the resteraunt and noticed.. One was good one gone.. Rode the sled home riding on the good sides running board leaning sled over.. My bud laughed his a$$ all the way back with me..lol..
 
same thing, going down a glare ice lake, smelling plastic all the way. overheat light came on half way across and was forced to shut down. my buddy stopped to help me put snow on my running boards, then when we took off.....well i did he didnt lol
 
weird.A few years back I did some River running on April 7 and it was + 7 C out. Didn't even have scratchers. I came to a spot at least 1 mile long and straight.Did 7 straight wot runs there,one after the other.Was consistently hitting about 118.5 to 119 mph on the speedo.Did not have any issues with the hyfax..so don't get it why some do..tracks must be to tight.I had no overheat issues either..
 
Caution with leaving 20 mm on end of limiter strap bolt. That is putting way too much weight on the sliders causing mine to melt, even on trails. Stock Yamaha hyfax just replaced. Melted them twice with limiter straps loosened. Not a good idea unless you have the extra front idler wheels and ice scratchers, etc. Tracks is adjusted correctly, little loose if you ask me. Tighter straps back up and no problems.

Lesson learned!
 
Yeah you need all the extra nonsense in order to loosen limiter straps or you can just leave them at stock settings. I got 3,800 kms on last pair of hyfax. This pair is halfway worn thru by loosening limiter straps. LOL.

Words of caution for those who do not have the rigamarole to keep hyfaxes cool.
