SXR600 conversion to a 700

so I really want to turn my 600 triple into a 700.I have a used 98 700 redhead motor.It has 1 cylinder and piston missing.I would take the 2 good cylinders and mount them to my 600.The part numbers are the same from 98 to 2001 on these cylinders..8Ch-11311-01-00.
I then would have to purchase the following then.
1 base gasket-new
3 pistons-new
3 sets of rings-new
3 new pins and clips-new

the head gaskets look good to reuse,just spray tack them prior to install

I would need a CDI for a 700 then.Is that it for the electrical or do I have to switch the stators?

Would need a TM33 carb rack--used

Was thinking of setting the clutch's up as the MM700 is set up.I have the 8CR weights already,have the 14.5 rollers,have the y-w-y primary spring,Have a green secondary spring..but it calls for a 45 straight helix with 21/40 gears.I am sure I can use my gears here.I have 19,20 and 21 uppers along with my 39 lower gear.I could go with 21/39 set up..what do you think.

Even I see the 2001 SXR700 uses 45 helix..so 47 helix's don't work on these 700's?? Otherwise the 01 SXR's ran 8df weights with 16 mm rollers.

I should probably stick to the mm specs because I will be running a 144 track..
 
What year is it? The Canadian 01 SXR700 has a different cdi than in the states. The Canadian 700 which is 8DM has 2- 16 pin connectors and I think that the 600 8DG doesn't. The American cdi may have the same connectors as your sled. You may want to look into the wiring of these a little more.

As you can see I am also running a 144 on my sled and using the MM set up to keep the clutching happy.
 
it is an 01.I checked the fiche and the part numbers are both the same between the 600 and 700.. and they are both (8cH5) for 2001 SXR's.The part numbers are 8DM-85540-10-00 for both CDI's..The 8cH5 is written after the word stator.There are two stators to pick from,but that symbol differs even if part number is the same.Getting confusing.
Need an expert to help here or someone who owns both sleds.

hey blue i belive i still have a 700 cdi and stator from a sled i parted out and can't ride or use them any more let me know if you need them ill make you a deal you cant say no to
 
Richard..you think I need the stator as well?? Could you check how many pins are in the CDI connectors for me and I will check mine and we will see if it will fit.Do you also have carbs to fit a 700 red head??
 
Is it true the 01 sxr700 have dual bulb headlight?.If that is the case,I cannot use any CDI or stator from an 01 then.I will have to go to a 2000 or 99 or 98 then to steal parts..man this is starting to not be an easy task now to deal with..need to know yet if the CDI and stators will fit into my sxr600 without a problem before buying parts.

well the jugs for a 700 from 98 to 2001 seem to be identical in part #'s.As long as it is marked 8CH00 which represents a 700 jug.I would be interested.

BETHEVIPER did have some 700 pistons for sale earlier in the winter. I wouldnt worry about new base gasket either, you can reuse. Spray that copper spray on that to and you will be just fine. Ive done it on two rebuilds and no problems

I wander if the base gasket can be used from 600 jugs to 700 jugs.Just the middle opening may be small since 700 jug opening is bigger for 700 pistons.He has spi pistons for sale,I want OEM anyways.

Converting the 600 tripple to a 700 is a natural improvement.

Cases and cranks are the same

Stators are the same but you have to stay with same headlight config. You can't use the single light stator with the dual one and vice versa.

Base gaskets are the same as well.

The CDIs are different part number but I am not aware what is different

All you really need to change is the cylinders + pistons, heads , head gaskets, carbs and for safety sake you should probably get the proper CDI...it all just bolts on!
 
stators would be the same for the single headlight..great.I can steal the stator from the used 700 we have here..it is a 98 motor.they were single..so the stators should be identical,so I don't have to switch stators(I would have a spare then).I have a CDI lined up from a 98/99 redhead which should be good,got the extra jug lined up ,have a set of carbs lined up as well..just need the jetting from a mm700 .I will be using 8CR weights(same as mm700)Pistons new aren't to expensive.

I was thinking of just rebuilding at 700 and keep 600 as spare.But when the guy blew a piston and damaged 1 cylinder,debris may have fallen into crank.Apparently he washed it out with gas.But I would have to split the cases and check everything..may just slowly work on that as another project ,but still can get the 600 to a 700 easily enough.

just found out that that donor motor is a 97 SX 700 redhead triple.No biggie,cylinders are still the right ones,heads would be fine,stator is actually the same that is on my 600 now(single bulb headlight),CDI would be different( found one from a 98/99 redhead 700),got the base gasket(one on my Sxr is fine)and cyl head gaskets here.Got an extra cylinder(01),TM33 carbs,CDI lined up to purchase,have to order new pistons/rings/jetting.Will keep my Carbon Tech Reeds and valves as is.
 
It's no big deal to split the crankcase as all it takes is a little bit of time and sealant to check it out. So why not just redo the 700?
