missing part

took carbs out today to clean...noticed that part # 18 and 19 were gone in this pic



Any reason why someone would leave it off??? oil pump breather plug.

Would this pic be of the hose that comes up between the PTO and centre carb by any chance?If so I would have to make an educated guess and say that what your missing is the bleeder screw and washer for the oil pump.Were these carbs on a running sled?If so I don't know how you never filled the under side of the engine cradle with oil because oil will come out of that hose if that screw is taken out.

this is really weird...I KNOW i didnt take it out...but its not in there...took the carbs to the shop to blow out the pilots...come home and find a huge puddle of oil under the sled....this thing must have been about to fall out and I some how bumped it. been searching with a magnet, but cant find it grrrrrrr

I guess in this case a puddle of oil is a good thing. Did it drain the tank dry? Once you find it (may need to raise rear of sled/tip it side ways if its under the motor) You will need to bleed the oil system.
 
not dry...lost about a pint. was just a slight trickle. Tipped it to both sides with no luck...going to raise the rear and try that in a bit...elusive little thing....
 
Well...I hate unfinished threads, so here it goes. I'm here to receive my DA of the Day award. I looked and looked and looked for the damn pug. Couldnt find it, went over to my tools, hoping that maybe I had memory loss and did take the plug out and maybe it was still in the socket. There the damn thing was, sitting on the end of the phillips screw driver that I used to loosen the intake boots. Turns out the oil plug has a phillips head as well as a hex head... I remember thinking that it looked a little different than the other two, but just figured that someone else at jerry rigged it....and the carbs came right out so figured I had loosened all the clamps.

Now that is funny right there. I can see how it might happen. Your vision must be getting bad like mine.
