99 600 triple...any tips?

Looking at one for my wife...tried to give her the '96 600 XT, but she hates it.

The sled is stone stock (new, stock style track) with 2500 Miles and appears to be in fine shape.

Any comments on what to look out for?

opinions are welcome...she is a fairly aggressive rider, but doesn't like anything too 'peaky'
 
The 99 is a hundred times better, but i am not sure what she didnt like about the 96 xt. (If she is like my wife--the cold is no good no matter the machine...)

Rear suspension--is actually less travel on the 99, but not a major difference
Motor- way smooth, and faster
Front end -- much better,0n 99
handling - lighter feeling, and MUCH more responsive--more predictable

Way better machine--but still cold if you know what I mean...

I would look for a 2000 wit the longer travel suspension.
 
thanks for the tips...

the 96 has gyt pipes on it, jetted, clutches set-up, etc...too peaky (and I think part of that is actually the noise)

she is trading up from an 89 ovation, so any suspension is more suspension.

I was going to bring the 96 back to stock for her (and by a new sled for me), but I'm pretty sure she really doesn't want it.

Aside from the rear suspension, any other differences of the '00?
 
the 600 tripple is about as "non-peaky" as you can get, pulls very smooth and the Chassis is very predictable compaired to the "pogo" yamaha's. I ride with my uncle quite often and he has a 95' V-max 600 which seems like a tank compared to my 01' sx600R. We have done just about every comparision between the 2 and my 01' wins in every way except for cornering ablity, his 95' corners just as good as my 01'.

She would be alot happier with the new chassis, My wife likes here 99' Vmax 600 DLX alot better than the old 90' Phazer she used to ride (she cares NOTHING about the power) to her it rides, handles, and is more comfortable.
 
If the 99 is an XT or XTC then it has the longer travel. The XTC will probably have KYB shocks on it. If it's the SX it will have the shorter travel.
 
it's the SX....but my wife actually likes the shorter travel and the way it handles.

I bought the sled and took it for a spin tonight....VERY smooth...she is going to love it!!

That 600 triple is a good choice for a woman. You can long travel the rear for $350 if you pull the suspension yourself. Maxx Perf. or Motorsports Plus does it for that price.
